Many times as believers, we eulogise God with praise-singing, in the similitude of a human, earthly king.

As such, the mentality we have is that the blessings He releases to us are dependent on the quality and extent of our praise.

Sadly, that’s a wrong mentality to have, because God is not impressed by how “much” or how well we praise Him, else His blessings to us would be “earned” and not on the basis of His grace!

What can you tell God that He doesn’t already know about Himself?

The right mentality to have when we praise and eulogise God, is that it helps us to build faith to believe Him, that He is who He says He is and can do that which He says He can do!

Broadly, we know the difference between spiritual edification and entertainment.

Both are good. One is better being necessary. The other is a luxury.

We have limited time in the gathering of the saints.

It is ridiculous to waste it on entertainment.

Deep down, you know.

Wholesome Entertainment at Christian festivities are appropriate and are a great service to christians.

But when you pit entertainment against spiritual edification, you make it an evil.

What I mean is, if you put entertainment as an option beside edification so that people are tempted to choose entertainment at the expense of edification, you've made entertainment there an evil.

Evil is privation of good. It's taking good and twisting it.

Substituting the good of edification for the brass of "wholesome" entertainment is evil.

So in the local church, spiritual songs should not be set up in such a way that people are tempted to be entertained instead of edified, with grace for sanctification being supplied.

The Pastor's job is to reduce the temptation as much as possible.

If we turn a naming ceremony to a worship session it's not bad. Because worship is always better.

But if you turn a worship session to entertainment, God will punish you.

But if you allow a festive event like wedding or naming ceremony to have lots of wholesome entertainment, you have done well. This is good.

Lastly this is why christians gifted in music must decide with every song what they want the song to be.

Are you writing it as a means of grace for edification and sanctification?

Or is it entertainment?

Never write a song with the intention of mixing the two.

Don't leaven the lump. Don't tempt people to take deep spiritual words for granted by wrapping it in danceable beats and melody.

You'll have them dancing as if they're possessed to words that should make you fall on your face in worship of God who saved us from destruction.

Occasionally the words may break through and help a few people. But that's narrative. That's not normative.

That means that's the exception to the rule. You don't live or plan your life based on exceptions to the rule!

The essence of every song must be clear and not mixed.

There are NO Christian entertainment-spiritual songs.

There can be "wholesome" entertainment. Wholesome doesn't equal spiritual.

And then there are spiritual songs.

Don't substitute gold for brass. And don't MIX brass with gold.

Leave gold apart, Holy. Leave brass apart for flexing.

And finally, those that now take outright carnal songs of the world and try to force spiritual lyrics into it....
