If you believe mental health is a skill you can build, not a trait you're stuck with, you're in the right place.

I am grateful for the research and education performed by the folds at @Metabolic_Mind. It is amazing what the right diet, exercise plan, and sleep can do to combat serious mental health disorders. A metabolic approach changed my life: https://t.co/h9b1OhZpUc .
Willpower is a terrible long-term strategy. Environment beats willpower almost every time. Change what's around you before you try to change what's in you.
If you're waiting to feel motivated before you act, you may have it backwards. Action usually comes first. Motivation follows.
If it's difficult to start, start by doing what's not enough.
@DrMcFillin Trauma can mimick every symptom profile in the book. The best treatment I've found is EMDR. It removed the present day distress from my traumatic history and it's worked wonders for many of my clients. And, it doesn't require medication.
@JkWheeln Congratulations! And, so true; your brain gets rewired to seek the substance and it'll do anything to get it, including telling you sweet little lies in your own voice. You're fighting a hard battle and coming out on top. That's awesome.
@LewisHowes My younger self would be surprised at how much I love learning, my ability to focus, and my mental health. He'd also be surprised at the healthy food I eat, and that my diet is what ended my bipolar symptoms. He'd also be surprised that I'm a therapist. He would be so surprised!
Cravings peak and pass, often within about 20 minutes. You don't have to defeat a craving. You have to outlast it. That's a very different fight.
Tip: Keep a craving card in your wallet with 3 things you can do anytime you feel an urge. Example: 1. Call Mike or my sponsor. 2. Go for a run. 3. Meditate or read. (Create a list of things you enjoy that captivate your attention. Be sure to include human outreach).
Your nervous system doesn't always know the difference between a crowded room and a tiger in the bush. That's not weakness. That's ancient software running in a modern world.
Regular meditation helps us turn that crowded room back in to a relaxing evening.
Learn almost anything, and actually remember it.
Short lessons, instant quiz, spaced repetition. Build your own course with the Topic Genie

@PsychToday Building purpose requires both reflection and action. Here's a free way to decide the daily actions that will lead you to a strong sense of purpose; it's what lead me to counseling. https://t.co/g6ueFQJ1MQ
@DrCarolineLeaf Best relationship advice I ever got: say whatever you need to say, in a nice way, even if you think it might end the relationship. Honesty builds trust. Holding back builds resentment.
@PsychToday I would add: Say whatever you feel you need to say, in a nice way, even if you think it might end the relationship. Holding back builds resentment. Open and honest communication builds health.
Anxiety and bad sleep feed each other. Anxiety wrecks sleep, and poor sleep amplifies anxiety. You can break the loop from either side, and sleep is often the easier door.

Time and attention are the most valuable assests we have. It feels awesome to find a purpose that drives every aspect of your life; it makes it easy to spend your time wisely. If you're still searching for purpose answer this: What have I learned from my suffering? How would I like to improve my community? Who and what do I value the most? Purpose is built through reflection and action.
