What do First Nations folk think when people say “we’re a nation of immigrants?” Everywhere outside Africa is a land of immigrants, technically. America is an experiment consisting of the dispossessed, settlers, the kidnapped & those drawn into it by global historical forces.
Quoting #MalcolmX while he lived was considered hate speech by the enemies of Black people as well as by Blacks trying to avoid and/or ignore reality.
Quoting him now is considered #WokeChic .
Listen to him or leave him alone.
@son_of_malcolm@AfricanaCarr Yes, I agree. In fact I see no evidence of any critique of Eurocentric thinking in any of these diatribes or their proponents.
Many negroes have concluded that the West has one, that this is the end of history, and we--in constantly talking about Africa--are mad fools!
@son_of_malcolm@AfricanaCarr We should ask why this campaign is being directed solely so-called Afrocentric folks, rather than at the Black Muslims, Christians, and Hebrew Israelites who rail against the so-called "progressive" politics of the West. This is puzzling, no?
@son_of_malcolm@AfricanaCarr The notion that what makes the so-called "Hoteps" problematic is their politics surrounding issues of gender and sexuality is untrue. If it were, Christian and Muslim Black folks would be the subject of these diatribes. However this is not occurring on the same scale.
@son_of_malcolm@AfricanaCarr I have concluded that those who intentionally participate in this campaign to use Hotep as a pejorative are active participants in what Carruthers described as intellectual war. They are fighting on behalf of the West against those of us who have chosen "intellectual maroonage".
@son_of_malcolm@AfricanaCarr Underlying it is even the implicit assumption that it is wholly illegitimate for Africans to have their own worldview, that is that we are not Africans, but Americans or Westerners--and thus should fully assimilate ourselves to Eurocentric cultural norms and values.
@son_of_malcolm@AfricanaCarr This campaign is not about debunking African-centered scholarship, as much as it is about associating this intellectual thrust with things that might offend the sensibilities of Black folks who have brought into a Eurocentric notions of progressivism or liberalism.
@son_of_malcolm@AfricanaCarr The whole misuse and abuse of "Hotep", including the attempt to vilify what has been one of the most vibrant intellectual movements of our time is a part of a larger and more insidious effort to problematize African-centered thought in the eyes of our people.
#Dobale to Marimba Ani. Who taught me how to bend the full universe of knowledge to the advancement of African people. Who never relented. Who never lost focus. Who smiles while sharpening the blade. Who taught me not to trifle. #ThankATeacher#TeacherAppreciationDay
This is an emerging story that needs coverage. Not saying that because he’s my brother. Saying it because he’s part of the local movement to reimagine politics. Read this article. @rolandsmartin@NNPA_BlackPress @EBONYMag @TheRoot@Blavity@nytimes https://t.co/jb636eB6NE
"King made the mistake of aligning the movement with self-serving politicians and civil rights leaders whose agenda was to make the poor comfortable in poverty, to accept handouts as reparations" Quote from article https://t.co/82F7YhRKWQ
From November, 2012: We hosted Elder Dr. #JamesCone at #HowardU . He read from and discussed his book "The Cross and the Lynching Tree" at @HURankin Chapel. His friend Gayraud Wilmore, among many others, was present. The Ancestor labored in love from beginning to end. #MaaKheru
Individuals in Eurostream media aren't substitutes for Black news publications producing thoroughly researched and reported pieces by highly skilled writers and radio and internet sites doing same. Deeply educated people will look past floods of inferior material. We must do it.
The long arc of betrayal of intent of the Reconstruction Amendments moves downward as white ethno-nationalism pounds its political advantage to stack federal courts. Our legal warriors fight, then express "disappointment" in courts. We need a revival of intellectual warfare. https://t.co/PvhjIBKqqq
Every time I spend time with other teachers, I'm reminded that teaching should be the highest profession in a society. That how a community treats its teachers says everything about what that community will be. And that no society can be better than its teachers.
