When preparing for a severe winter storm, consider that power may go out for many days. Outages during severe cold can be especially difficult. Stay safe:
- Close & seal windows & doors
- Don’t use a gas stove for heat
- Run generators outside
- Have a plan for medicine/devices
Winter storms can make travel dangerous & leave people stranded. If you can, avoid travel during snow. If you must go, check local road conditions before leaving & make sure you’re #WinterReady with a fully stocked car emergency kit.

When a hurricane is forecast to impact your area, it's in your best interest to:
-Have multiple ways to receive alerts
-Monitor weather updates from @NWS and @NHC_Atlantic or @NHC_Pacific
-Review and follow safety guidance local officials have provided
Two storms are developing in the Atlantic that could impact many people on the East Coast of the United States. Currently, Tropical Storm Humberto and Invest 94L are each expected to develop into significant storms, with the potential of making landfall and causing dangerous weather conditions across multiple states.
If you're in the path of these storms, the time to prepare is now:
- Make sure you have food and water in case of power outages.
- Charge power banks you may need if the electric goes out.
- Get medications you may need before the storm arrives.
- If you can, clean your gutters before rain starts.
