The NRA froze the tipped minimum wage at $2.13/hr in 1996.
Your tip isn't a bonus for your server.
It's legally counted as part of their wage paid by you, not their employer. 35 years of $2.13/hr.

DC voters approved a living wage for restaurant workers in 2022 and the restaurant lobby said it would destroy the industry.
But, by March 2025, DC had the highest restaurant employment in its history.
In the last 17 years, the price of everything has gone up.
I’ve gone from too young to rent a car to member of Congress.
But the federal minimum wage hasn’t gone up a cent.
That’s a scandal.
Her premium for her and her husband went from $544 → $1,300.
So she had to drop their coverage.
SEIU member Joyce Rena Bumbray-Graves is now hoping she doesn’t get sick.
That’s not healthcare. That’s a gamble.

$7.25 an hour is about $14,000 a year.
No one can survive on that. People can barely survive on double that.
We raised the minimum wage in Illinois. It's long overdue everywhere else.
(1/): This week I was in Washington, DC for the launch of the Living Wage for All Act led by @DeliaRamirezIL and @AnaliliaForNJ.
The proposal would raise the federal minimum wage to $25/hour and connect wages to the real cost of living. 🧵
The need for one fair wage has never been clearer, as the gap between the wealthy and working families keeps widening.
That’s why we’re introducing the Living Wage for All Act, and demanding a $25 federal minimum wage. It's time to pay workers what they deserve!
From housing to groceries to gas, working families are paying way too much for the basics.
We need big new ideas to make things cheaper.
We support @USProgressives’s New Affordability Agenda to bring down costs by taking on wealthy special interests ripping people off.
For 17 years, the federal minimum wage has been stuck at $7.25. That’s not a living wage!
I’m proud to stand with a powerful coalition to introduce the Living Wage for All Act would raise the minimum wage to $25 per hour for every single worker.
It’s time Congress put working families first!
Federal minimum wage hasn’t increased in 17 years. $25 an hour is the bare minimum today to survive. This bill includes tipped workers and individuals with disabilities who regularly earn far, far less. Subminimum wage pays less than $3.50 an hour.
Today we are announcing the Progressive Caucus’ New Affordability Agenda.
Donald Trump lied about bringing down costs.
We need an actual plan to make things cheaper by taking on corporations ripping people off.
Under this plan, every American family saves money. Here's how -->
In 1968, median homes were $25,000. It took 15,625 hours at min wage to purchase one. Today it’s $400,000, or 55,172 hours worked at today’s minimum wage. I can’t spell this out any clearer for you.
At a time when corporate profits are at record highs, it’s long past time workers are paid what they deserve.
I’m proud to stand with @repdeliaramirez and @RepAnalilia in introducing the Living Wage for All Act to make $25 an hour a reality for everyone.
