When Manipur gained statehood in 1972, Kangpokpi had 193 villages while Ukhrul had 93. By 2023, Kangpokpi’s villages had surged to 713 (an increase of 520), whereas Ukhrul’s rose only to 112 (+19).

A similar pattern is evident in Churachandpur, which grew from 339 villages in 1972 to 874 in 2023 (+535). In contrast, Senapati increased modestly from 129 to 166 (+37). Even after accounting for unidentified settlements (27 in Churachandpur and 43 in Senapati), the disparity remains striking.

The people deserve to know what factors have driven the sharp proliferation of new settlements in Kangpokpi and Churachandpur, while Ukhrul and Senapati remained relatively stable over the 51-year period.

In a functioning democracy, a National Highway is more than asphalt and signage — it is a declaration of central authority, economic lifeline, and equal access for all citizens. Yet in Manipur, particularly along stretches like NH-202 (Imphal-Ukhrul road) passing through Kuki-dominated areas, this declaration has been reduced to a mocking formality.

The brazen digging of the highway near Shangkai Kuki village on May 30, 2026, using heavy machinery like a JCB, is not an isolated act of vandalism. It is a stark symptom of eroded state control, selective impunity, and the dangerous ethnic fragmentation that continues to plague the state three years after the 2023 violence erupted.

This raises fundamental questions: What is the purpose of designating a road as a “National Highway” or “Rajmarg” if the Centre and state apparatus cannot guarantee its neutrality and security? National highways fall under the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. They are built and maintained with central funds precisely to transcend local fiefdoms and bind the nation.

When one community can call indefinite shutdowns, dig up carriageways, collect informal “taxes,” or selectively bar travellers based on ethnicity, the very concept of national sovereignty frays.

Soilamboi, an alleged jawan from Kangvai serving in the Assam Regiment was one among the Kuki mob that torched Meitei homes in Phougakchao Ikhai (Leikai) in Imphal West, Manipur on 3rd May, 2023.

The article argues that if the eyewitness testimonies of the released hostages are accurate, and if the reported phone records, the presence of spades and shovels in the militants' vehicles, and the inconsistencies in statements issued by various Kuki organisations are taken together, then the most plausible conclusion is that the six Naga men were murdered on the very day they were abducted, 13 May, and that their bodies were subsequently concealed or destroyed.

If this is true, then the blood is on the hands of the Central Government.

All those 60,000+ security forces have failed to stop this daylight barbarism and complete breakdown of order. These regions have effectively ceased to be Indian territory. They have been handed over to the absolute dominion of narco-terror fiefdoms!

Today, 31 May 2026, at approximately 11:00 AM, innocent residents of Konsakhul Naga Village were ambushed by armed cadres of the KNF (P) in alleged collaboration with villagers from Leilon Vaiphei.

The attack occurred after the water supply line serving Konsakhul Village was deliberately cut off, causing hardship to the villagers and escalating tensions in the area.

During the ambush, one villager sustained serious injuries. This unprovoked act of violence against innocent civilians is deeply condemnable and has created fear and insecurity among the residents of Konsakhul.

The deliberate disruption of essential water supply and the subsequent armed attack constitute a grave violation of humanitarian principles and threaten peace and stability in the region. The concerned authorities are urged to take immediate and appropriate action to ensure the safety of the villagers, restore essential services and bring those responsible to justice.

Responding to the humanitarian appeal and assurance of action by Union Home Ministry and Manipur Govt, UNC to release 14 Kuki civilians.

We appeal to the Chin Kuki groups to take a leaf out of this and show humanity by releasing the 6 Naga civilians held captive by the Kuki National Front KNF, the militant group under so called Suspension of Operations with the the GOI and GOM, which gives them immunity.

We truly hope they are alive.

Kuki Militants are known to execute civilians in cold blood and refuse to handover their bodies.

Till date more than 30 Meitei civilians are missing (presumed dead) and their bodies are yet to be recovered.

A truck driver was killed after suspected #militants opened fire on a convoy of commercial vehicles under security escort in #Manipur's #Ukhrul district on May 29, triggering a gunfight with security forces.

According to police, a joint team comprising personnel from the Border Security Force (BSF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and #ManipurPolice was escorting around 15 to 20 trucks carrying essential supplies towards Ukhrul when the convoy came under attack near TM Kasom. The driver sustained critical injuries and died at the scene. His identity had not been established at the time of reporting.

Fate of our drivers along the Kuki-Narco-Terrorist dominated highways in Manipur.

Drivers are the people who kept essentials moving for the public even during the most difficult and dangerous times. Yet they became targets of violence.

Since 3 May 2023, Kuki terrorists have killed personnel and civilians across Manipur, Assam Rifles personnel (Dolaithabi), BSF personnel (Serou/Thingangphai), CRPF personnel (Serou Sugnu), a Police Officer (Moreh), children and women (Jiribam), youths (Kangpokpi, Ukhrul and Joujangtek), infants (Tronglaobi), and now a carrier truck driver at TM Kasom today 29 May, 2026 Ukhrul District.

A society that attacks those who protect, serve, and sustain human survival during crisis is only digging its own grave. Highways must never become corridors of terror, and those who provide food, medicine, fuel, and daily essentials should never have to risk their lives just for doing their duty.

This tragedy must serve as a serious lesson to everyone, violence eventually destroys not only the targeted community, but the very foundation of humanity and coexistence itself.
