This is the shared account of two TVDSB teachers, @erinanger (Gr1) and @2hal (SK/1). We are beginning the first year of our school()school experience at TPS.
Start Co-teaching and Team teaching. Put your heads and your classes together. Share the responsibilities and magnify the experiences. Break the system of 1 solo teacher in front of xx kids. It is magical.
Energy/Materials & Objects #inquiry continues. Ss investigated & sorted classroom objects by materials. Amazing observations made! We then used @Jay__Dubois’s strategy again of airdropping a background to all iPads so Ss could do a Pic Collage scavenger hunt around the school.
Hello again Twitter.... sorry we have been gone for so long 😞 We sparked a new #inquiry last week which will combine our Energy & Objects/Materials strands. Ss explored a mystery object provocation through an Observe/Infer activity. Day 2 was a #QFT.
Pumpkin #inquiry still going strong! Ss observed lots of diff pumpkins/gourds, googled answers to some questions, read books/watched videos about life cycle, placed Halloween pumpkin in garden to watch decomposition & then opened pumpkins to explore seeds & do some planting.
Indian corn #inquiry is buzzing w/ excitement. Ss googled, read books, observed & then moved into their wonders.... Will an animal eat it if it’s outside? Can we make popcorn with it? What does it look like under the kernels? Next up, procedural writing for corn husk dolls
Our goal for Science inquiries this year is to provide Ss w/ 2 topics & they choose learning based on interest. Our 2 fall inquiries were voted on last month-pumpkins & indian corn. We started w/ #qft activities & moved to student Kanbans to organize activities @TVInnovates
Amazing learning w/ author Chrissy Bozik in our classroom! Chrissy shared the process involved in writing & publishing her books, brought amazing artifacts, explained the job of editors/illustrators & read her newest book, The 12 Trains of Christmas... choo choo! @scholasticCDA
Used @Jay__Dubois amazing suggestion of Air Dropping a template to Ss iPads for a Soc. Studies project yesterday. After all Ss had the sorting template in PicCollage, they searched the halls for diff responsibilities, inserted text & moved it to correct side #TVDSBTech
Using the hall as a 3rd classroom has been a game changer for us this year. With 37 Ss in our blended classroom, we offer the use of both classrooms or the hall for work. Last week we got new hall whiteboards installed & Ss are loving this new choice of work space! @TVInnovates
1st Soc. Stud. inquiry this year was sparked by a student provocation when he brought in eggs from his farm & shared his responsibilities. Fast forward 2 weeks we have done Shared Reading, comparing responsibilities, and ChatterPix projects about roles/resp. at school. #inquiry
At the end of every day, we pull our own Ss back together, no co-teaching, no blended classes, just our own “class list” kids. In these 15 mins, we do Star of the Week routines which hit so many expectations; counting, estimating, data management, oral language & reading.
Pedometer PD yesterday = pedometers in action today! As a class we did procedural writing for how to use them. Ss acted out steps & then we all got to try one on. Walked around the school, did a brief number talk about steps, then introduced Pedometer Passes! @hpeactive4life
🎃 math day was a huge success. Started off w/ a “where’s the math” math talk which hit on measurement, numbers & shapes. Then we moved into our 🎃 exploration..... with 37 🎃s!!! Ss loved weighing, measuring height & circumference & then estimating/counting seeds #TVDSBMATH
After working on decomp w/ shake/spill, cubes & rods, we tried an open problem w/ one of our differentiated groups. Ss worked in partners using pics, numbers & words. During reflect/connect, Ss shared what shone ⭐️ in their work & what they’d ❤️ to work on next time. #TVDSBMath
#TakeMeOutsideDay was so much fun! After our #outdoored trip this week, Ss wanted to make their own Fall scavenger hunt to do with their buddies. Ss took iPads to document their findings and used their pics for a PicCollage. We also sorted fall leaves in different ways!
A few days late, but what an amazing time we had at Jaffa on Monday! Ss searched under leaves & stumps for living things, went on a nature scavenger hunt and visited the nature museum. We found lots of Fall! We ❤️ #outdoored
