@RachelReevesMP @thetimes Each child saves the state £8,500 per head by not using the places they’re taxed for. You should be actively encouraging this & working closer with Private schools . Smaller class sizes in state & less investment needed : win / win

However these examples like Private ed. are also choices and paid for. For me, the principle of taxing fees for education albeit Private, is ethically wrong. ( btw I’m not “buying or selling” regarding Private VAT argument) 🍻

@BoydWilldigg @LinnyLou1952 @Socket1Sophie @JamesMelville And Universities, your kid’s weekend footy sessions , guitar lessons & 1:1 tuition - all businesses too. Education has always been tax exempt due to its benefit to society as per other western countries ( illegal to tax in EU ) . 🙂

@Ferretgrove @terriwin @BellaWallerstei Not as clean as that - all mainly autonomous. Again, the principle of developed countries to not tax education is considered ethically fundamental to society. ( Germany subsidises Private Ed ) Funding by state not free for 5-18 yr olds : we all pay 8k per head - Not enough ! 🙂

Although I’d love my kids to go private I disagree with the principles of taxing those willing / afford to invest more in their child . Besides, the more that go private improves state schools .

@Ferretgrove @terriwin @BellaWallerstei Agreed, staying in EU may have helped us. We wouldn’t have been scraping the barrel to raise funds taxing education as it’s illegal in EU. University fees are not taxed for the same reasons that private education is not taxed - for society benefit as are books, food etc 🙂
