The government of india nominates 12 members to the Rajya Sabha. Since independence, a total of 136 MPs have been nominated in this way.

★ Among them, 50 are Brahmins and 43 belong to other upper-caste communities. Only 4 are from SC, 4 from OBC, and just 1 from ST through this route. Yet, nominated MPs are never called “upper-caste quota MPs.”

★ So far, 17 nominated MPs have come from the artist category, out of which 8 are Brahmins. Not a single SC/ST artist has ever been nominated to the Rajya Sabha.
