Gossip keeps Ethereum honest by being wasteful on purpose. Every node forwards the same block to every peer it has, so identical bytes cross the same links again and again. That redundancy is what makes it reliable, and it’s also what makes it slow and expensive.

RLNC swaps the duplicates for coded pieces. Your node stops needing one specific missing chunk from one specific peer and starts needing enough independent pieces from anyone at all. Collect enough, rebuild the block, carry on.

That’s live on Ethereum mainnet now, free, running as a sidecar beside your client. Block data moving 2.5 to 3.5 times faster on average, millions of ETH already behind it, nothing touching your keys.

So yes, @get_optimum really is gossip’s worst nightmare. The ghosts are still out there hauling sacks of the same packet.
