@nickdebois@wesstreeting Reeves completely blind sided my sector with this @nickdebois. Since her budget, increasing NI, its cost the sector 120,000 jobs; the vast majority being aged between 18-24. Gone are the days of a Saturday job to help you through college/Uni. Unforgivable.
London’s bars, restaurants, pubs, clubs, theatres and cultural spaces rely on people being able to get in and out of the city with confidence. When that journey becomes uncertain, the impact is felt immediately, not just by venue owners but by the thousands of staff, freelancers, suppliers and performers who keep the night-time economy moving.
At a time when businesses are already navigating rising costs and cautious consumer spending, further disruption heading into the weekend could create even greater challenges. The night-time economy remains one of London’s biggest cultural and economic success stories, but it depends on a transport network people can rely on.

Proud to support the #VATsTheProblem@cheftomkerridge@ukhospitality campaign.
Hospitality is not asking for a handout. We’re asking for a level playing field.
Across much of Europe, hospitality benefits from a reduced rate of VAT because governments recognise the value the sector brings to jobs, communities, tourism and local economies. In the UK, we remain one of the most heavily taxed hospitality sectors in Europe despite being the country’s third largest employer.
Every pub, restaurant, café, hotel and hospitality business creates opportunities for young people, supports local suppliers and helps keep our high streets alive. We create jobs, drive tourism, generate investment and help build thriving communities.
A reduction in VAT to European levels isn’t about protecting profits. It’s about protecting jobs, supporting growth and securing the future of an industry that millions of people rely on.
If hospitality succeeds, towns succeed. The economy succeeds.
The industry needs to come together and make some noise. The more voices we have, the stronger our message.
One industry. One voice. One ask.
It’s time for the UK to recognise hospitality as the economic powerhouse it is.
Please support the campaign, sign the petition and share it with your teams, colleagues, suppliers and customers.

VAT's the Problem campaign: sign the petition now below.
On 1 July, the hospitality industry is coming together to launch ‘VAT’s the Problem’ — the united sector campaign calling for hospitality VAT to be reduced from 20% to 10%. https://t.co/YZtl2l5C0i
Our pubs, restaurants, cafes, hotels, nightclubs and many more, are at the heart of our communities.
They bring people together and bring life to our cities, towns and villages, but they're under huge pressure from rising costs.
In the UK, you pay one of the highest VAT rates in Europe. 20% extra in VAT for your pint, meal out or stay away. In France, Spain and Italy, it's 10%. In Germany? 7%.
Our message to Government is simple. Let's stand together to say VAT at 10% is fair for hospitality.
Please help us by signing and sharing the petition below:

Hospitality has so much potential - to create jobs, to drive high street regeneration and economic growth. But it is held back by tax - the most highly taxed sector of the economy
Now the sector is united that #VATsTheProblem. A new sector-wide campaign, spearheaded by Tom Kerridge, is calling for hospitality VAT to be reduced from 20% to 10% - the single biggest lever the Government can pull to unleash potential. So let’s make the Sunmer’s VAT cut the start. Sign the petition today 👇

@UKHospKate Some venues increase as much as 481%
