Almost two years since I published my first article which explores temporality and emotional labour in the context of hairdresser-client interactions. https://t.co/QZhAE32Qyy
In a cafe today, my daughters friend (aged 11) chose a meal, then commented ‘oh no it has 500 cals in it’ I can’t have that’. Tell me again that having calories on menus is a good idea! It doesn’t tell anything about nutritional value, so don’t tell me it’s for health reasons.
Excited to welcome @martyngriffin at @NBSNU on 13.05.22 to discuss his paper on moral injury among critical care #nurses during the #Covid_19#pandemic. DM to attend, all are welcome!
We’re extremely disappointed that the government is making calories on menus mandatory in England from 6 April.
We know it causes anxiety for people affected by eating disorders.
We know it can increase fixations on restricting calories for anyone with anorexia or bulimia. 🧵
1. calorie counting is dangerous for those suffering from eating disorders
2. people should be able to go out and enjoy a meal without worrying about every single calorie
It’s so sad that a lot of peoples first thoughts about the 21st of June are about needing to lose weight... Surely this whole pandemic should have made us realise there’s way more to life than looking a certain way ☹️🤯
Open access: Harness et al. article draws attention to the ways in which temporality informs relations between hairdressers and clients https://t.co/dcYq8uss4F
