The whole point of India's defence push these last five years was to stop depending on foreigners but this week a US based private equity firm Carlyle took controlling stake in an Indian defence company which supplies to ISRO and DRDO!!!

So in 2020 the ceiling for foreign ownership in defence was was increased to 74%

Because of that change Carlyle was able to get a controlling stake in Micropack making this the first instance of a foreign PE fund taking control of an Indian defence company

India opened space to private companies in 2020, Government promoted startups, gave them access to ISRO infrastructure, transferred SSLV rocket technology to HAL

Private space companies went from 11 in 2019 to over 400 by 2024, Space startup funding crossed 147 million dollars in FY2025-26 alone. Now same government issues memo saying scientists cannot resign from Gaganyaan till mission is done.

You created competing market, funded it, celebrated it Then try to trap people from joining it, Fix is not restriction, Fix is better pay.

Meanwhile around 120 scientists working on key missions walked out in past year. ISRO has 1,050 vacant scientific positions it cannot fill fast enough.

When people who held deep mission specific knowledge leave and replacements do not come in at same rate, missions start failing

ISRO pays entry level scientist about 72,000 rupees per month in hand. Senior scientist with 20 years maxes around 2 lakh with all allowances. Aditya Rallapalli ran simulation team that generated 25 terabytes of data validating Chandrayaan 3 moon landing, He quit.

Skyroot founders who left ISRO in 2018 hold combined 2,440 crore in billion dollar company. Startup employees with stock options can earn more in one IPO or buyout than ISRO pays over full career.

A few weeks ago at the Police Expo, a senior person asked me why @sssdefence should be working on our own designs when we are already manufacturing some beautiful Russian rifles in India. Guys, Egypt has been doing licensed production of the AK since 1950. Ethiopia too has been making the AK 103. 2 weak African nations have done this for decades. But their armed forces aren’t anywhere close to ours. We need better & one day when that dawns on our next gen decision makers, who will they come to ? Africa ?

- Needs confirmation, but this is going to be a huge deal if true & if it happens, will create an IDDM focused defence giant. Individually, both Apollo & Premier already have a huge footprint in practically every missile program. Apollo has decades of expertise in defence electronics & had already acquired IDL Explosives. But IDL doesnt have the expertise of Premier in the defence sector. Yet Apollo has managed to secure several warhead/explosives ToT from DRDO recently.
- Very happy to think two ~ IDDM firms I believe in may potentially combine. Instead of seeking ToT, this is exactly what Indian defence firms must attempt to do. Acquire capability if you can't develop it. Collaborate amongst yourselves if you alone can't do it alone. Up to MoD to create an environment for this specifically.

- IC engines also mentioned in Vector CEO quote: "We spent seven years changing that, one component at a time: winding our own motors, writing our own firmware, machining our own engines."
- So far only known IDDM boxer/flat type IC engines for UAVs were by DRDO (two & four cylinder engines).
- Raphe mPhibr is also developing engines for UAVs. DRDO also has larger engines.
- Hope we get more details. Engines aren't mentioned on Vector Technics website..?

In 2024, BARC transferred 50 kW alkaline electrolyser to BHEL. Today, BHEL announced licensed MFG of Thyssenkrupp Nucera’s 20 MW scalum® modules. While BHEL intends to scale BARC’s design to MW-class systems, IND's rapidly growing GH₂ market is cited for the Nucera partnership—a ₹20,000 cr NGHM program will create a rapid demand for electrolysers: was this not known?

Like EVs & solar before it, every passing day deepens India’s electrolyser dependence. Worse, even where local tech exists & ToT—mission-mode execution is conspicuously absent.

Foreign firms magically offer licensing or JV just when IND nears that indi tech—is well established.
