Sometimes, young people stay silent because they fear being judged or dismissed.
You don’t need all the right words to support someone. Start by listening, checking in, and reminding them they don’t have to face everything alone.
At OWF, we believe every young person deserves a safe space to be heard.

Over-reliance on foreign aid is a structural risk for the sector because when funding ends, services to the communities we serve end with it. About 98% of Uganda's NGOs rely on foreign donors, so diversifying funding is both a priority and a shared task.
At OWF, we are broadening our funding base by building local partnerships and relationships. Local giving is still developing, though, and remains limited, so this will work best as a collective effort.
We therefore invite local organisations, individuals and government to join this effort.

Being young isn’t always easy. Between job worries, money stress, family expectations and comparing ourselves to others, there’s a lot many young people carry silently.
The pressure is real, and feeling it doesn’t make you weak.
What do young people struggle with most but rarely talk about?

Mental health is health. For young people, the conversation cannot end with one awareness day.
Over the next two weeks, we are sharing the #MindsThatMatter series. Follow along.

The @MinofHealthUG and partners’ 4th National Health Promotion & Disease Prevention Conference reminded us that a stronger health system is not built by facilities alone.
It is built by communities, trusted health workers, prevention, and services that respond to people’s real needs.
From community health workers and digital health to adolescent health, mental health, sexual and reproductive health, and WASH, the conversations and Ministry of Health priorities underscored a critical challenge; turning commitments into action.
One message that strongly resonates with Open World Foundation’s work in youth health is this; access is not enough. Young people also need privacy, dignity, accurate information, and confidence in the services available to them.
We were proud to contribute to this conversation through an abstract that we submitted on youth-friendly health services.

Many NGOs have exited the space, leaving critical gaps in community services. This partnership comes at the right time to help bridge those gaps. As @PamojaU2024
Family we are glad to have attained such a big step and God willing we shall serve our communities.
@Mglsd_UG Congratulations Commissioner Emily Ajiambo. Open World Foundation looks forward to collaborating with you for Uganda's youth. Thank you Mr. Mondo Kyateka for steering the department.
Congratulations on 50 years of Uganda–EU partnership, Dr. Lakisa. We fully agree young people aren't just beneficiaries, they're the drivers of change. At Open World Foundation, we're working to make that real by helping vulnerable youth gain the health, education and livelihood skills to become self-reliant. Looking forward to partnering for a more prosperous, inclusive future. 🇺🇬🇪🇺
In Uganda, 24% of adolescent girls become pregnant before the age of 18—with consequences for their education, health and future opportunities.
Early pregnancy disrupts girls' education and limits their opportunities.

Nearly 1 in 7 people live with a #MentalHealth condition.
People with lived experience can help transform mental health care at every stage: from designing services to delivering and improving them.
By collaborating and working together, experts with lived experience, and people working in mental health systems, policy, and research can design care that is person-centred, rights-based and rooted in dignity.
Make community-based services stronger, support continuity of care and make every conversation count https://t.co/o4ibsedr2o
