Financial Fair Play rules are NOT fit for purpose and need looking at as it effects sporting integrity. Clubs like Newcastle are being punished for ambition and it's fans are being penalised - all just to protect the current 'status quo'
Supposedly set up to protect clubs from bad owners and to introduce sustainability in football, instead it has become a means to rig the league system to the benefit of the existing elite clubs.
It's not just here, at Everton the anger arrived after their 10 point deduction over interest payments on their new stadium. Forest know what's coming soon after promotion and a spending spree as well. But Newcastle’s Bruno Guimarães predicament is another show of how FFP punishes ambition, and hurts the league.
Here is a star player, a Brazil international who has adapted to English football brilliantly and loving life on Tyneside. A poster boy for Newcastle and the Premier League. Yet there is an acknowledgement that one day soon they may have to contemplate a sale abroad if they are going to continue to transform their squad into one that can challenge in the long-term, a bit like what they did with Allan Saint-Maximin.
That is because as it stands, with the club close to our FFP limit, any recruitment will be closely tied to generating more commercial revenue which takes time to bridge the gap. Others already have a mammoth headstart on us here but we are expected to compete as equals on the pitch despite huge financial hurdles. So the only other option is to roll the dice, sell a star player and hope to replace them well using the money.
If it is not Guimarães, and I hope it never is, it might be Sean Longstaff or a Lewis Miley because, in the world of FFP, selling academy graduates represents pure profit, meaning you can bank the entire transfer fee rather than just the profit on a player! More madness! It's just wrong. Owners, with financial guarantees to clubs should be able to operate as they see fit.
Given Newcastle’s majority owner is Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund with assets worth $776bn if they can’t break the cartel with them resources because the rules are anti-competitive then who the hell can? Can you imagine them buying another brand, which they do all the time, and then being told what they can and can't do with their new investment? No neither can I, but that is what is going on here in the world of football!!!!! It's crazy, it's anti competitive and it's wrong!
“It’s not the willing from the owners that is preventing us from signing big players in January, it’s the rules” according to the iNewspaper recently from a source at St James Park. Chelsea and Manchester City never had these challenges after their lottery win takeovers - again hardly fair then!
Here's Keiran Maguire on football finance and FFP:
“FFP is based on an arbitrary version of profit. Businesses go bust due to lack of cash, so it is an inconsistency to say that FFP assists clubs in terms of either achieving profitability or sustainability."
And the result of that is that the existing heavyweights will always be able to flex their muscles, whilst the others look to make up the numbers in a precession year after year, barring the odd hiccup. He continues:
“The rules lock in existing financial advantages and gaps so in effect create a glass ceiling designed to minimise the chances of another disrupter club in terms of top four positions, such as Manchester City or Chelsea, being created.”
Things need to change. Football needs to be more about on the pitch action then the gentlemens club cartel going on at the Premier League. RIchard Masters needs to actually start doing his job fairly and encouraging and promoting change, challenge and sporting performance through the rule book - and not looking at protecting the current elite to keep his mates and his marketing team happy.

The reason it is so important NOT to communicate that there is a £2,500 cap. Is it risks some people, possibly vulnerable elderly people, thinking they can keep the heat on max all winter, and they won't pay more than a certain amount.
@LukeEdwardsTele Not something that we don’t already know, this is the fault of the previous owner and manager who had players of the standard of Clark, Gayle on big wagers when they were well past there best at PL level

@NUFCblogcouk@ToonMouthTyne@BenFoster Ben was a decent keeper back in the day, wish him luck for the future, nufc only want players that want to be here and want to play for us, im sure nufc had looked at lots of goalkeepers, personally im really happy with loris a player with a lot of experience and still young
This is why @trussliz or @RishiSunak, on the day you become PM I beg, plead, pray you will bridge that gap. If not the physical and mental health risk to millions is unthinkable.
And if the package is right, as I did in May, I'll be the first to applaud. Please help.
10. These rates are mathematically unaffordable for many. The full new state pension is £9,600/yr, the older one £7,400/yr, and remember many pensioners have higher than typical use.
Bills are an even bigger proportion for many on benefits and with disabilities.
