It's been a while, I haven't really been active on this account latelty, but I wanted to share this recent paper that I had the pleasure to contribute to, about a fascinating LOV domain to expand the #optogenetic "toolbox" 💡

@punkrockscience @MiMrMa @Helena_LB I'd read that as "1:prio" as in "priority" but I'm clueless what it could mean so I'll go with that interpretation instead.
As @thomas_macaulay notes here, @guardian's GPT-3 generated article was actually assembled by a human editor from 8 generated articles.
They don't post the original articles so we can't see how much the editors intervened. But I have GPT-3 access.

So in my new job I no longer work exclusively with synthetic genes that I get to assemble like lego, but have to look at actual, real genetic information to figure things out.
Including such fun moments like:
"Isoform 1 is encoded by transcript variant 3"
WHY
@MiMrMa "Supershark".
Ich mein, es war von Anfang an klar dass das B movie trash sein würde, aber die Meeresbiologin war unfassbar.

noch nicht mal 9 Uhr und ich hab schon wieder alles satt.
12-15k is my "regular" distance for relaxed runs now, but considering where I was in Feb/Mar I still often feel like it's "not good enough".
But seeing this old tweet really put that into perspective just now.
I was scrolling through my feed looking for something specific when I came across this. Update since then: Earlier this year I was training for a marathon, around March I was running 30k for the first time.
I think I experienced a 'runners high' for the first time in my life today.
My normal track is ~6km but part of it was blocked today due to an event, so I had to turn around and decided to continue along in the other direction. Ended up 'exploring' and running 8.5km.
The marathon eventually got cancelled due to the pandemic, and I injured my foot and had to take a break, which was a real bummer. I'm slowly trying to ease myself back into really long distances, and hope to get to 40k before my birthday in September.
@kleinerschwamm Yep, that's what I keep thinking! I want to work at a place that wants to hire *me*, not somebody I'm pretending to be! And that's good advice about "meeting the team". Let's see if I get any replies to my applications at all XD but I'll keep that in mind!
Trying to transition from academic research to industry I am now faced with the question of whether my looks will impact my chances of getting a job. E.g. currently I sport bright blue hair.
@kleinerschwamm I don't usually add a photo (mainly because I am personally convinced that the "first look" at a CV should be about qualifications only). It's still easy to find out what I look like because most online application systems allow to add a link to linkedin, and I have a photo there
Oh how I wish for a world where qualifications and skills count more than mere appearance. But I live in a country where it's still customary to put a photo on your CV, so I'm feeling a bit pessimistic.
But I'm aware that not everyone sees it like that, and I am somewhat anxious that industrial settings will be less permissive about looks (although it probably depends on the job, how much "outside/customer/client contact" would be involved)
