Oud huisarts slaat alarm over nieuwe #vaccinatie die ALLE pasgeborenen sinds kort krijgen

De #RSV-prik voor baby’s — officieel #nirsevimab, onder de merknaam #Beyfortus — is sinds kort opgenomen in het Rijksvaccinatieprogramma, maar de besluitvorming eromheen roept serieuze vragen op die de roverheid liever niet beantwoordt.

Oud-huisarts Michael Smulders dook maandenlang in het dossier en trekt verontrustende conclusies over wetenschap, lobbypraktijken en het ontbreken van onafhankelijk toezicht.

Geen vaccin, wel een vaccinatie noemen
Het eerste wat opvalt als je het dossier induikt: de RSV-injectie is technisch gezien helemaal geen vaccin. Bij een klassiek vaccin stimuleer je het immuunsysteem om zelf antistoffen aan te maken. Nirsevimab werkt anders — het zijn kant-en-klare, synthetisch geproduceerde antistoffen die direct worden ingespoten.

Dit is een therapeutische handeling, afkomstig uit de geneeskunde voor zieke patiënten, niet uit de vaccinatiegeneeskunde.

Toch heeft de overheid ervoor gekozen om dit product officieel een ‘vaccinatie’ te noemen. Daarvoor is de Wet publieke gezondheid aangepast, zodat passieve immunisatie met monoclonale antistoffen voortaan onder de noemer vaccinatie mag vallen. Smulders vergelijkt het met voetbalregels toepassen op een hockeytoernooi: wetenschappelijk inconsequent en misleidend voor ouders.

Fase 3-onderzoek nog niet afgerond bij goedkeuring
Nog opmerkelijker: de Gezondheidsraad bracht zijn positieve advies uit toen de fase 3-onderzoeken naar nirsevimab nog liepen. Dat zijn de grootschalige klinische studies die aantonen of een middel daadwerkelijk veilig en effectief is voor brede populaties. De fase 3-data waren dus simpelweg niet compleet toen de raad besloot het middel aan alle pasgeboren baby’s in Nederland toe te dienen.

What could possibly go wrong?

De Gezondheidsraad als doorgeefluik voor de farmaceutische industrie
Hoe werkt dat besluitvormingsproces precies? Een farmaceutisch bedrijf introduceert een nieuw middel. Dat sijpelt door naar de politiek. De minister vraagt de Gezondheidsraad om advies.

De Gezondheidsraad baseert dat advies grotendeels op onderzoek aangeleverd door het RIVM — onderzoek dat voor een groot deel gefinancierd of uitgevoerd is door de farmaceutische industrie zelf. Vervolgens neemt het ministerie het advies klakkeloos over, zo is bevestigd door directeur-generaal Gezondheid bij VWS Sonnema.

Een sleutelfiguur in dit geheel is professor Marion Koopmans, vicevoorzitter van de vaccinatiecommissie van de Gezondheidsraad. Zij bekleedt die positie al sinds 2019 en was aanwezig bij alle vaccinatieadviezen, inclusief die rondom de covid-injecties — ook bij het omstreden advies om zwangere vrouwen te vaccineren, wat tot voor kort gold als een absolute no-go in de medische praktijk.

Wanneer Smulders de Gezondheidsraad schriftelijk verzoekt het positieve advies over nirsevimab te heroverwegen — onderbouwd met meer dan twintig pagina’s aan wetenschappelijke literatuur — krijgt hij een beleefde afwijzing terug. Ze veranderen niets.

Verloskundigen als onvrijwillige reclamezuil
Omdat kinderartsen, huisartsen en gynaecologen weinig trek hadden om de RSV-prik aan baby’s toe te dienen of erover voor te lichten, koos het RIVM voor een andere strategie: verloskundigen.

Die hebben namelijk het grootste vertrouwen van zwangere vrouwen. Ze kregen foldermateriaal in handen gestopt met de slogan ‘De RS-virusprik. Dat geeft rust’.

De verloskundigen zelf waren helder in hun afwijzing. Zij zijn opgeleid om baby’s gezond ter wereld te brengen, niet om een informed consent-gesprek te voeren over een farmaceutisch product waar ze geen specifieke kennis over hebben. Dat ze standhouden, is één van de weinig hoopvolle signalen in dit verhaal.

Marktlogica boven medische noodzaak
Waarom al deze moeite voor een injectie tegen RSV, een virus dat bij gezonde kinderen een verkoudheid veroorzaakt?

Slechts 1 procent van de kinderen belandt in het eerste levensjaar in het ziekenhuis vanwege RSV-gerelateerde bronchiolitis. Sterfgevallen onder overigens gezonde kinderen zijn uiterst zeldzaam. Het echte risico beperkt zich tot kwetsbare kinderen met onderliggende aandoeningen.

Toch krijgen sinds kort álle pasgeboren baby’s in Nederland de injectie. De redenering is een kosten-batenanalyse: minder ziekenhuisopnames betekent minder zorgdruk. Maar de bredere vraag — is dit wel zinvol, en voor wie eigenlijk? — wordt nauwelijks gesteld.

Want wat de farmaceutische industrie hier heeft gevonden is de heilige graal: een product voor iedere Nederlander, gezond of niet, geleverd met gratis reclame van het RIVM.

Een alternatief dat genegeerd wordt
Onderzoek uit academische ziekenhuizen wijst op een verband tussen lage vitamine D-spiegels bij pasgeborenen en een verhoogd risico op RSV-opname. Suppletie van vitamine D tijdens de zwangerschap zou een laagdrempelig, goedkoop en veilig alternatief kunnen zijn. Smulders roept de Gezondheidsraad op dit serieus te onderzoeken en ouders een echte keuze te geven.

Dat dit onderzoek niet wordt uitgevoerd terwijl de prik al is ingevoerd, zegt genoeg over de prioriteiten van de betrokken instanties.

Het recht op eerlijke informatie, op een weloverwogen keuze, op wetenschap die niet door commerciële belangen wordt gestuurd — dat zou de kern moeten zijn van elk vaccinatieprogramma. Vooralsnog lijkt de RSV-prik voor baby’s een schoolvoorbeeld van hoe dat grondig mis kan gaan.

Consider the physics of planetary scale: Carbon dioxide makes up just 0.042% of our atmosphere—roughly 426 parts per million.

Visually, that equates to just 4 molecules out of every 10,000, or a single molecule in a crowd of 2,500. Even with historical shifts, it remains a minuscule trace element.

Like water vapor, CO₂ warms the atmosphere by absorbing specific narrow bands of outbound infrared radiation. But scale matters. Water vapor can make up to 4% of the atmosphere in humid tropical regions, averaging 1% to 2% globally, with clouds covering roughly 69% of the planet at any given time. Concentrations of water vapor are routinely a hundred times higher than CO₂.

Consequently, water vapor is by far the planet's dominant greenhouse gas, driving anywhere from 50% to 70% of the natural greenhouse effect.

Yet, despite its tiny atmospheric footprint, CO₂ is the indispensable foundation for biological life. Through photosynthesis, terrestrial plants convert sunlight, water, and CO₂ into glucose energy and oxygen, forming the backbone of every land-based food chain.

It's not just the trees. In the seas, microscopic phytoplankton drive between 50% and 85% of the world's photosynthesis and oxygen production. Furthermore, dissolved carbon is a fundamental building block for marine life, utilised by corals, shellfish, and pteropods to construct their shells.

But the physical engine of global climate isn't a trace gas at all, nor is it the thin atmospheric envelope above us. It has always been the oceans.

Covering 71% of Earth's surface to an average depth of 2.3 miles, the oceans are the world's true thermal heartbeat. Water is roughly 800 times denser than air, and the top 2.5 metres of ocean store as much heat energy as the entire atmosphere.

The oceanic world holds over 80% of Earth's mobile carbon reservoir and stores more than 93% of the climate system's retained heat energy. Oceanic currents are the planet's true air conditioning unit, endlessly transporting immense stores of tropical heat toward the poles—a global conveyor belt that takes a thousand years to complete a single circuit.

Earth is a dynamic, interactive system driven by the fundamental laws of physics and thermodynamics—not oversimplified computer models or economic spreadsheets.

The idea of a single trace gas controlling the entire biosphere unravels under the sheer weight of planetary reality.
