Julius Caesar was assassinated #OnThisDay in 44 BC and stabbed 23 times by the senators during a meeting in the Theatre of Pompey. Julius Caesar was later deified, and a temple was built in his honour in the forum. People still leave flowers on the altar that marks the site of his funeral pyre.
