Omo so this case is still on. Na wa.
The dispute is essentially a shareholder rights and dividend dispute that has become a public family feud involving billionaire businesses man Muhammadu Indimi and his twin daughters.
The twins claim that they were each originally allocated about a 5% stake in Oriental Energy Resources, giving them a combined ownership of roughly 10%.
Later, they claimed that their interested were reduced to around 0.63% each without their consent. They argue that this dilution dramatically reduced the dividends they were entitled to receive.
Oriental Energy’s version is that the daughters voluntarily transferred (or sold) their shares and were paid for them.
I hope it’s not a case of the twins signing a document that they didn’t fully understand.
In 2016, the coy declared dividend of about $400mm+, and the had it been their original ownership was preserved, they would have gotten $40mm+ in dividends.
In February 2026, a Federal High Court ruled in favour of the twins and ordered Oriental Energy to pay the twins their $40mm. Oriental Energy appealed the judgement.
Note that the case is between Oriental Energy (a legal entity) and the twins. But since the company is controlled by Mohammed Indimi, the case is naturally portrayed as a feud between him and his daughters.
Corporate lawyers and governance enthusiasts are closely monitoring this story. The outcome will influence how Nigerian courts treat minority shareholders protections, dilution of shareholdings, and corporate governance in general.
Just finding out now that my Mum’s pension is about 60,000 naira per month 🤣🤣🤣🤣and she hasn’t been paid gratuity after 12 years of retirement .
This Gratuity is just about N2,000,000 naira plus.
Omo! Nigeria civil service is a joke,
As a share based payment accounting expert, I would say there are a lot of factors at play when it comes to equity.
Not all equity packages are super great. Things like vesting conditions (number of years it vests) and the frequency of vesting, what the exercise price is, whether leavers still have enough years after leaving to exercise or if it lapse immediately on termination. Then most importantly, what stage the company is. For already listed company, the equity is somewhat liquid as long as other conditions are fulfilled but for pre-IPO, it’s often a game of chance depending on how soon the company list.
Some pre-IPO company still find a way to create liquidity for their employees which is good. A good example is Revolut that allows their employees to partake in secondary sales etc. Although, they often also cap what portion of vested options can be exercised and sold.
So when I negotiate offers, I make sure I am very comfortable with the base and I ask questions that allow me gauge the liquidity of the equity and whether to count on it or not.
Anyways, the recently awarded equity I had to forfeit when leaving my last role pained me. But it’s part of the bullets for the road to growth 😅.

"We refused to pay ransom because we have the geography of the forest, we know what it is and in answer to it, from 8 divisions, we are now moving to 12 divisions to shorten the response time to defeat terrorism and banditry, it is very necessary and we are doing so"
If you can go through the rigor of writing ICAN and becoming ICAN-qualified, please take it further, by ensuring that you gain practical work experience that is needed to be an ACA.
When you hold the ACA title, recruiters, employers and co-workers hold you in high, because they know the value you possess.
If you want doctors to be well-trained and tested before they can manage people's health, why shouldn't you as a Chartered Accountant not have the right skills and knowledge to bring value to the finance function of your employer?
The conversation is not always about how much the employers in the Nigerian market are offering.
It is about YOU.
What do you have to do to carve a niche for yourself and be in high demand?
Recruiters and Employers know a star employee when they see one. As a matter of fact, a star employee is given the pass to make demands.
The labor market is competitive anywhere in the world.
I am not asking you to grow patient for an opportunity to land on your table. I am asking you to find the gap and fill it.
Many people do the barest minimum and hope for the best.
Trust me, I have been there and I know it is not a good place to be.
YOU can be so much more, if you are intentional about your growth.
What do you need to pass ICAN exams?
Score 50 marks and you are good to go!
What that means is that whether it is ICAN or ACCA, once you score 50 marks, you have met the barest minimum.
There are candidates who score 70 marks and there are candidates who simply target 50 marks. In the end, both qualifies. But a candidate who puts in the work, whether they score an average of 50 or 70 marks, is likely to be competitive, and continues to improve themselves.
You have to keep moving.
Becoming an ACA is the starting point.
The market will find you.
Let me help you with the screenshots🥱🤭

MBA class went into full meltdown last week when I corrected a presenter who said Access Bank acquired Diamond Bank.
I insisted it was a merger, not an acquisition.
Almost the entire class disagreed with me.
Omo, I explained tire. 😂
Iyin, Access Bank acquired Diamond Bank.
Yes, it was executed through a scheme of a merger, that much is true. But beyond the labelling, it was an acquisition. It sounds like one, moved like one, breathes like one.
Reasons:
- Access Bank remained the surviving entity.
- Diamond Bank transferred all of its assets, liabilities, and operations to Access Bank.
- Diamond Bank was dissolved without being wound up
- Access Bank kept its name.
- Access Bank remained the legal entity.
- Herbert Wigwe remained Group CEO.
- Diamond Bank’s brand disappeared.
If this conversation was had in a Business Law class, you're right, its a Merger. But for any other class in Business School, it is an acquisition.
I can explain why it was structured this way, and it was strategic, even though that strategy largely failed in the end.
I understand the legal form is a merger. That said from an accounting POV, Access bank was identified as the acquirer in that transaction and it recognised goodwill on the acquisition of Diamond bank after consolidating the assets. 😃
