We heard it's #FossilFriday so we thought you'd like to feast your eyes on Oregon's State Fossil, the Dawn Redwood (Metasequoia). The fossils are at @JDFossilBedsNPS.
Once thought to be extinct, Dawn Redwoods are used for landscaping here. But wild stands are endangered.

Then vs Now: Seaside Turnaround
Here marks the official end of the Lewis & Clark Expedition where they "turned around" to head home.
The images are circa 1940s and 2021 respectively. Though these were made from different angles, you can see much remains from the earlier era.
