I'm in Buenos Aires and the inflation situation is truly untenable. I feel terribly for anyone that needs to deal with this in their day to day life.
How do we make it so non-crypto users don't need to care about ETH for gas on @BuildOnBase and can get easy access to USD-based savings with onchain defi yields in a self-custody experience?
People don't care about "crypto". They care about "getting dollars" and stablecoins solves that problem NOW.
Even better, yield-bearing stable coins like @HighYieldUSD on base remove the complexity and autocompound yield up to 8% APY inside a single erc20.
One blocker I believe prevents this from being widely accessible is ETH for gas. Its confusing. General sentiment for non-crypto users is "crypto is scary" and I think buying ETH to pay for gas makes this worse. How can it be less confusing for onboarding?
Would be really cool for a basic "onchain savings" app users to not need to worry about ETH, especially at beginning of journey.
Some potential solutions:
- Maybe @moonpay could convert % of USDC (or $eUSD) deposits to ETH? as long as its $2 that would probably last awhile?
- Maybe a wallet with stablecoins in it can initiate a trade that pays for the gas _after_ the transaction? Seems technically challenging for blockchains...
- delegated ETH gas payments? @PirateNationNFT did a really cool thing on Polygon where they somehow paid for all user gas costs at one point, making the gameplay seamless. What if anyone could donate to the gas costs for Argentinians to onboard? What if @gitcoin could help fund "flight from peso inflation gas costs"?
