🧵About 2 weeks before the 2005 Gaza pullout, my editor sent me into the Jewish settlement of Gush Katif to embed myself with the residents. I was one of the few reporters who sympathized with the residents, viewing their forced evacuation as a moral and strategic blunder.
MAGIA PURA.

En el momento del pase hay una línea de 7 ingleses más el portero, todos con más de 1.85 de estatura, y el balón va a llegar exactamente al punto donde Lautaro (1.74) va tener la portería para él solo.

🎆 Happy 250th Birthday, America! 🇺🇸
Today, we're celebrating in style — lighting up the Brandenburg Gate in honor of 250 years of American independence.
Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan has produced a must-see TV show for @AppleTV that is an unknowing rebuke to @ZohranKMamdani. It brilliantly portrays the ravages of “warm collectivism” and the heroism of “frigid individualism" with its heroine delivering one of the sharpest cinematic tributes to the American virtue of individualism:
“Now I realize some of you think the world might be better off this way, with all the new ‘peace,’ ‘love,’ and ‘understanding.’ Enjoy that opinion. Relish it. Because it may be the last one you ever possess. And when the day comes that ‘peace’ and ‘love’ are forced upon you—who knows?—maybe in that last fleeting moment, you’ll realize that what you treasured most was your individuality.”

@NYCMayor This hit TV show is an answer to Mamdani, celebrating "frigid" individualism while brilliantly showing the ravages of warm collectivism.

We are blessed to be in America. I wonder how people don’t appreciate America. You’re a free person.

Thank you, America. I appreciate you! Happy 250th birthday!
Calling my Polish and German friends, especially historians.
I'm trying to track down the family of "Witek the Pole," a Christian civilian worker who risked his life to help my grandfather, Henryk Arfa, survive Auschwitz by smuggling food. My grandfather called him "an angel sent down from God."
These are the facts I have:
-First name: Witek (likely Witold)
-Polish Christian from Silesia
-Worked as a civilian (not a prisoner) in a blacksmith workshop at the Jaworzno labor camp (an Auschwitz subcamp)
-Helped my grandfather in 1943–44 by secretly bringing bread and other items into the camp in exchange for tools my grandfather took from the tool room
If this story sounds familiar to anyone, or if you know historians or archives that might help identify him, I'd be deeply grateful. @ArolsenArchives@AuschwitzMuseum@ipngovpl_eng
Here is his story of "Witek the Pole":

This is the fascinating story of my grandfather striking a deal with "Witek the Pole" to help him survive the Auschwitz work camp. I wish I could find Witek's family to them for keeping my grandfather alive.

We can and should be critical of the State of Israel, but we must also have strong boundaries: ultranationalism, racism and anti-Zionism alike are not welcome in our movement.
-Rabbi Gilad Kariv at the conference for the centenary of the World Union for Progressive Jews in London
We should be careful not to become a partisan movement. Our sanctuaries should be open to all kinds of Jews. I say this as a politician….Families who vote for Netanyahu celebrate their Bar Mitzvah at our synagogue.
-Knesset Member Rabbi Gilad Kariv at the Darkeinu conference for progressive Judaism in London
Knesset Member Rabbi Gilad Kariv, whose sermons I enjoyed at his Reform synagogue in Givatayim, emphasizes the importance of Jewish nationalism and peoplehood in his keynote address at the 100th anniversary of the World Union of Progressive Jews in London.
@MOSSADil Israel should do the same for its enemies. Unfortunately, it has experience. I covered the psychological warfare drafted by leading Israeli psychologists to evacuate the 9,000 Jews from their homes in Gush Katif.
