Not all vehicles passing through the #NOPD seat belt checkpoints are stopped. However, if enforcement action is required during a stop - meaning if state or local laws are determined to have been violated - arrest and/or issuance of citation are authorized, based on the offense.
In an effort to keep both the public and officers safe, all #NOPD officers taking part in the seat belt checkpoints have been issued standard PPE and will be wearing such equipment when making contact with occupants of vehicles at the checkpoints.
