I just need to focus on writing for the biology fandom because this stupid thesis doesn't seem to be writing itself :(

@supremecornball It's basically like admitting your work isn't good enough to be published in a real journal that has standards and is properly peer-reviewed, lol. I don't think they'd be acceptable enough for most professions that require regular publications

I'm reading a dogshit new research article where they used an out-of-date population estimate from a bad secondary source—it has an "accessed on" website date, but no published date. I KNOW it's a 2011 # bc our province releases pop estimates ANNUALLY in the game reports. Awful.

@supremecornball Some journals don't have wide readership, but are perfectly fine—sometimes, your results are worth publishing, but just aren't exciting enough to be in a super prestigious journal. Publishing in awful 'predatory journals' might not count, and hurts your reputation and credibility

@supremecornball Yeah, the politics of journals are wild. Some really don't care about quality or plagiarism. Some do care, but then make it extremely difficult to access data. You have to pay to publish in their journal and if you want it to be open access to everyone, you often have to pay more

@Gran0l I feel like the main problem is the misuse and strict adherence to labels. As a queer woman who grew up in a conservative home, teasing apart my internalized homophobia to find a label that fit brought me comfort for a time. It's a stepping stone not everyone needs, but some do
