Holding Outsourcing Companies Accountable for Nigerian Bankersā Welfare
Letās address the outsourcing companies employed by banks.
The Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) law mandates the following for outsourcing companies:
1.Employment Duration: Staff should not be retained for more than 2 years.
2.Pension Contributions: Pensions must be paid.
https://t.co/HXVakaCUZl Management: HMOs must be provided for employees.
4.Housing Contributions: NHF deductions must be remitted.
5.Salary Review: Salaries must be reviewed annually.
6.Fee Transparency: No more than 10% of outsourced staff salaries should be deducted as fees.
7.Salary Disclosure: There must be transparency regarding outsourced staff salaries, including how much is collected on their behalf and the terms of agreements with the secondary employer (in this case, the banks).
However, evidence suggests that many of the companies listed below are failing to comply with some or all of these legal obligations.
Please tag these companies and their executives on LinkedIn if you know their handles, so they can take corrective action:

End!
I think we need very vibrant lawyers that will help us engage banks to come and explain how they keep Nigerians as outsourced staff for 5, 10, 15 and in some cases 18years.
Most painful thing is that many havenāt even enjoyed more than one or two salary increments. I have many who didnāt have a dime added to their money in 10 years.
Yet, these banks will turn around to employ young graduates and pay them triple or quadruple of the amount they pay these outsourced staff.
I know of a lady who said she actually sold JAMB form to one of the newly employed ETs who is now her supervisor after training him on the job.
This is apart from training them before they even understand whatās going on in the bank.
These same people end up using the phrase @only one mail will sack youā
They have no blame. Itās the banks that have rendered these people and their experience useless after using all their vibrant youthful years. Now they asked many of them to go for being redundant and pay paltry sums like UBA just did.
Impunity and illegality cannot be allowed to continue in our banks.
Itās illegal to keep outsourced staff for more than 2 years.
Local and international laws posit that equal work should attract equal pay.
Lawyers, please these Nigerians need you.
Kindly dm me for collaborations.
Letās work together to clear banking of the corporate enslavement our people and we will soon be supporting your industry.
If you keep quiet and we fail, how do we sanitize the system one after the other?
Please retweet if you see this and tag the banks and their execs.
#bankersspeakup
As we combine our energies and advocacy for #bankersspeakup, this is a call for everyone to support us with your voices. Our Nigerian bankers are being enslaved in the industry. Many are earning less than minimum wage and even the graduates among them are earning as small as N54k in this hard economy. While others are doing well paying as much as N200k for their contract staff, others are not doing well at all. Let all of them do the right thing minute and end modern slavery in banking. Kindly retweet widely.
Lend Your Voice: A General Appeal, My Friend
Over the past month, I have been shedding light on the dire situation faced by many employees working with Nigerian banks. These workers are subjected to unfair treatment in numerous ways, and itās time we address this.
One glaring issue is the shockingly low wages. For instance, I confirmed that a cleaner at UBA earns just ā¦36,000, a security officer earns ā¦68,000, and a driver earns ā¦72,000. Direct Sales Agents (DSAs) earn even less at ā¦54,000. These figures are well below the national minimum wage, and itās heartbreaking.
Even more distressing is the fact that these workers donāt enjoy proper leave benefits. Iāve learned that some are granted 15 days of leave, but itās unpaid. Imagine taking a well-deserved break only to receive nothing for that period. Worse still, cleaners are reportedly required to find their replacements while on leave, with the substitute receiving the cleanerās salary for that time. This is not leaveāitās an archaic, inhumane practice that strips these workers of their dignity.
This issue isnāt limited to UBA. It seems to be a systemic problem within the banking sector, exacerbated by outsourcing companies that appear to collude with these banks to exploit workers further.
Iām appealing to all of us, from every walk of lifeāNigerians and non-Nigerians alike. Whether youāre directly affected or not, we must speak out against this injustice. These are our fellow human beings, and they deserve better than to be treated as corporate slaves.
Let us stand together and demand fair treatment and dignity for these workers. Your voice matters.
If you have a good contact with the Central bank of Nigeria, Ministry of Labour, EFCC, ICPC and National Assembly, please contact me.

UBA outsourced staff salary for tellers and Customer Relationship Officers.
Associate 1.
Basic: 94,000
Adjustment of Living: 19,000+
Total: 114,000
Associate 2.
Basic: 104,000
Adj of Living: 21,000+
Total: 125,000
Associate 3.
Basic:114,000
Adjustment of Living: 23,000+
Total: 137,000
Rumor has it that the management of the bank , due to much backlash is struggling to approve a 40% increase in salary for these outsourced. Even with this increment, if implemented, UBA still would be the least paying mega bank in Nigeria and Africa at large.
Associate 1 may start earning approximately #131,600 monthly.
Associate 2 approximately 145,600
Associate 3: 159,600., all basic.
If the adjustment of living scam continues,
Perhaps,
Associate 1 might take home~ 150,600
Associate 2 ~166,600
Associate 3 ~182,600.
I want everyone to please clap for Tony Elumelu and CO. As far as he is concerned, himself and his Aristocrats have done too much.
Remember:
1. UBA even with all this, remains the least paying Trillion Naira Bank.
2. These outsourced staff are expected to work weekdays and on weekends every one of them is expected to open at least 5 new accounts, or face insults and even sanctions in some cases.
3. These same people are expected to rake in deposits as they have been given end of year deposit mobilization drives.
4. They have no other form of compensation for their hard work:
A. 13th month salary is 10k.
B. No leave allowance.
C. Tony Elumelu confidently said 'no ' to them getting bonuses and profit sharing, as the case may be.
D. Health insurance, is extremely below par. It is so bad that staff get turned back by these health centres when they go for treatment.
Since it is in their power to do what is right and they have failed to do so, their individual faiths and beliefs would catch up with them.

The Need to Reevaluate HND/BSc Discrimination in the Workplace
First, I want to express my gratitude to Mr. Adesola for being a source of inspiration during this challenging phase of my career. With 10 years of work experience, I hold an HND, a PGD in IT, two professional qualifications (Associate Member of the Institute of Strategic Management and Debt Recovery Practitioners), and a certification in Professional Ethics and Conduct under CIBN. I am also in the final stages of my studies in Business Administration at the National Open University.
Despite these qualifications and years of hard work, I often find myself disheartened. Itās demoralizing to see myself training full-time staff in the bank I work for, knowing that my HND qualification limits me to non-full-time employment. After six years of education (OND to HND) and an additional NYSC year, this reality feels like stagnation, a barrier to career advancement.
This situation raises larger questions about HND/BSc dichotomy in the workplace. I believe this is an issue that needs immediate attention, particularly in sectors like banking. For instance, policies at some organizationsāStanbic IBTC being a case in pointārestrict non-full-time employees with HNDs from advancing, regardless of their skills and contributions. Worse still, those who later acquire BSc degrees may still face age restrictions for conversion if they are over 32 years old.
I urge industry leaders and policymakers to revisit these policies. Talent and dedication should outweigh the type of degree one holds. Bridging this gap will not only empower professionals like myself but also contribute to a more inclusive and productive workforce.
Letās work together to ensure fair treatment and equal opportunities for all.

āThe Casualization Crisis in Nigerian Banks and Unjust Grading Progression:
When I was younger, and even as I grew older, bankers in Nigeria were among the most prestigious professionals. They commanded immense respect in our communities, whether they were clerks or senior officers.
I vividly recall a time when cashiers (now tellers) and accountants (now heads of operations) were influential figures in society. Back then, the minimum qualification to become a teller or cash officer was an ordinary level certificate. If anyone well-versed in this subject could provide a deeper historical perspective, it would be greatly appreciated.
Consider the inspiring stories of Jim Ovia of Zenith Bank and Erastus Akingbola of Intercontinental Bank, both of whom started as clerks and climbed to the pinnacle of the banking profession. Today, such success stories are unthinkable. Those days are goneāburied under a system that stifles career growth for the average Nigerian banker.
Today, entry-level employees (ETs) with first-class, 2:1, or even 2:2 degrees spend an average of five years stuck in the same grade. Career progression to senior levels like GM has become nearly impossible, with perhaps only 0.1% making it that far in their lifetimes. The structured progression systemāET, ABO, BO, SBO, AM, DM, MGR, SM, AGM, DGM, GMāwas designed to provide growth opportunities for dedicated employees. Yet today, that ladder has been broken, dismantled, and discarded.
Instead, what we see is a reliance on outsourcing, which has devolved into a tool of exploitation. It is illegal to keep employees as outsourced staff for more than two years, yet Nigerian banks retain outsourced workers for 10, 15, or even 18 years. Iāve seen it firsthand. This inhumane practice persists in our country while these same banks operate abroad under stricter labor laws.
For instance, in Sierra Leone, itās unheard of for a bank teller to be a contract worker. Similarly, in Ghana and Liberia, many roles that are outsourced in Nigeria are handled by permanent staff. Nigerian executives know better than to replicate these exploitative practices in other countries. Why, then, should it be acceptable here?
This must change. The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), CIBN, NDIC, the National Assembly, and other supervisory bodies must be alive to their responsibilities.
At Bankersspeakup, we will not stand idly by. We are committed to challenging unjust retrenchments, such as the recent mass layoffs at UBA. Imagine serving a bank for 18 years only to be dismissed with a paltry N3.5 million. This level of disregard for human dignity is unacceptable.
If Nigerian banks insist on laying off workers unjustly, we demand that they freeze new hiring until fairness is restored. This is non-negotiable. We will exhaust every legal avenue to seek justice for our colleagues and advocate for a banking industry that respects its workers.
May God help us in this fight for dignity and fairness.
