Today we launch Coeliac Awareness Month – and we’re asking: is it coeliac disease?
Coeliac disease is a serious autoimmune condition that affects 1 in 100 people in the UK – but only 36% are medically diagnosed. That leaves an estimated 500,000 people living undiagnosed, often with debilitating symptoms that can affect every part of life.
This May, we’re sharing the real stories of people who’ve faced those challenges and found answers. Derek, Heather, Natalie, Amelie and Anita have all experienced coeliac disease in very different ways – and they each have a powerful connection to Coeliac UK’s work. Whether it's through providing food information, diagnosis, access to care or support or supporting our community via social media – they’re helping us fight for everyone with coeliac disease.
Watch their stories, share your own, and help us reach the thousands still searching for answers.
Throughout the month, we’ll be:
- Encouraging people to take our free online self-assessment at https://t.co/KlCfA5pe2G
- Raising vital awareness through events at the @balmoralshow , @FreeFromEvents, the @SeneddWales and across the UK
- Sharing blogs from across our diverse gluten free community
- Hosting a special online cookalong with our ambassador, @beckyexcell
- Launching our 64 Challenge to raise funds for those still undiagnosed
And much more – from media and press activity to partner support and advocacy work happening behind the scenes – all helping to make the biggest impact possible.
Wrapped in Love: BFree support Coeliac Awareness Month 2025
After raising £26,000 last year, BFree is back to support Coeliac Awareness Month this May. For every pack of their Soft White Wraps sold, 40p will be donated to Coeliac UK to help fund vital support and research.
This month is about making change happen – by telling stories, starting conversations, and fighting for the 500,000 people who still don’t know what’s making them ill.
How will you join in?
Whether you're sharing your story, taking on a challenge, or helping someone take their first step toward a diagnosis – every action makes a difference.

#OTWeek24 may be drawing to a close, but it’s just the start of our campaign! 💪🏿
Together, we can help influence change so that occupational therapy is included in the strategic planning and allocation of resources to manage health, education, housing and care needs in the UK.
We know that an occupation isn't just your job or daily activities – it's any meaningful activity that supports physical, mental, emotional and spiritual wellbeing.
Share this post and help spread the word! 💚
