In the current clusterfuck here's my advice:
Help those in need with money, support, your voice... whatever you have available to you.
If you can't do that, support your friends.
If you can't do that, engage in self-care.
Then do what you can with what you have.
@grunt_guru Congrats! I'm so excited for you and what the next chapter brings for you. You've got the amazing ability to put your all into things and I know you'll make the stress inherent in major changes completely worth it.
You got this! (If you ever need someone to remind you, DM me.)
@tha_rami One thing that my therapist told me is that with the end of any relationship, you have to mourn the dream, which was a life of its own. Whether it's family or a lover, you have a vision of a relationship that could have been in the future and that loss deserves to be mourned.
Ok see, this is why twitter is sometimes amazing. Every now and then a thread comes along that explains some little bit of your soul to you.
And you can see from the responses it gets that you’re not alone.
And somehow it helps.
And damn I’m gonna miss this place.
I said goodbye to a patient a few years ago. She didn’t die, she just got old. I treat patients to age 21 and they move on. When they do, I joke, “well, I did my job! I kept you alive until adulthood!”
With this kid, it was not a joke. 1/
Driving through Texas just reminds me that if there ever was a Fallout style post apocalyptic America, there would be an entire faction dedicated to the worship of this fucking beaver
BLACK NEURODIVERGENT CONTENT CREATORS ONLY:
Because we are supposedly harder to find (I don’t think we are, I think people don’t look and rely on people like me to inform them so they don’t have to know) I want to have some kind of resource to have us listed.
@Miyaa999 I have not had Mettbrötchen yet! It's going to take some warning for me to try it because the "USDA SAYS NO" is very strong in my head.
But I'm sure I will some day!
Let me break this down for you, and y'all can go break this down for others.
"Rest in power" is not the woke version of "Rest in peace." It's not just cool, it's not a way to show you really liked someone, it's not something you say when a famous person you really liked dies.
@loopingntheloup If I hadn't been hauling up 40 kg of random shit in suitcases to the new house, I would have popped out during the change. But in my head I was like "this'll be fine, I can sort it when I get home."
Not making that mistake again.
A pump failure on my train home was not what I had planned today. Should I have stopped my journey to get a syringe or needle tips from a pharmacy? Yes. Did I? Nope. (Fellow T1Ds, don't be like me!)
Currently doing the ketone rundown for avoiding hospital. Gonna be a late one.
@loopingntheloup The thing that slayed me is that I had ON ME a brand new 5 pack of pens (two! both basal and bolus!), a brand new five pack of vials, and I didn't have them fill the pen needle rx because "I'll just get it from my pump supplier. I won't need it for a few days"
@loopingntheloup It is fascinating, though. The only time I've had BGLs this high without a massive illness was when I was diagnosed. It's such a relief to go through it with knowledge and skills.
@loopingntheloup It was 3.5 hours and the failure happened just before I got on the first train or just after. I am home now and my ketones and BGLs are coming down after a pump change and insulin by injection.
