Mental emancipation is indeed key. Because even if the truth is given to you in stack of dollar bills, you’d reject it and hold on to whatever falsehood you were fed.

I was smh reading this! I was scheming thru to reply to you. Cuz I know insult will follow suit. Maybe, just maybe when I get to be in your shoes I’d tweet like you do now, I wouldn’t see that the scale is far from balance. That the negative is far worse. I guess we’ll never know

[Gimba Kakanda @gimbakakanda]

I see you are already struggling to change your tone. You made that dog-whistle about how you subjected Sa’a to cyber-bullying just to scare me, and that is exactly why I had to quickly remind you that you had picked the wrong victim before you embarked on your fool’s errand. I have dealt with bullies far more vicious than you, and I can tell you for free that none of them took a thing from me. So if that was meant to intimidate me, you badly misread both your audience and your own importance.

Secondly, the threat of cyber-bullying or physical violence is not what any rational person would consider a civic right. If you have a grievance against a government, there are constitutionally sanctioned channels through which to demonstrate it, and one of them is the polling booth. But to threaten violence against a government supporter simply because his politics offends you, you must be out of your mind. That is not activism, dissent or civic engagement. It is thuggery packaged as political consciousness.

The point of my take is to show you how democracy works: while you are entitled to your right not to support the government, there are millions of others who do, and their rights do not become inferior because their politics irritates you. Among them are lecturers who have not been on strike and students who have been celebrating the chance to study without themselves or their parents constantly worrying about school fees and upkeep. You may despise their reasons, but you do not get to invalidate their choices. That is democracy, whether or not your ego can accommodate it.

I think Apple TV has taken over from every streaming platform. Their series are really good. And the quality is what really makes the storyline even better.

Luis de la Fuente on Lionel Messi after Spain defeated Argentina in the FIFA World Cup Final.

🗣️ “Tonight, Spain celebrates becoming world champions, but my heart also goes out to Lionel Messi. As an opponent, you dream of beating the very best. As a football lover, it’s impossible not to feel emotional seeing a legend leave the pitch with so much pain.”

“I told my players before the match that facing Messi was the greatest challenge in football. Even at his age, he demanded our full respect from the first minute to the last. He pushed us to our absolute limit because that’s what the greatest players do.”

“When the final whistle blew, I celebrated with my team because we achieved our dream. But then I looked across the pitch and saw Messi. That image reminds you how cruel football can be. One team is crying with joy, the other with heartbreak.”

“History will remember Spain as world champions, and rightly so. But history must also remember Lionel Messi with respect. He didn’t lose his greatness tonight. He didn’t lose his legacy. He walked off that pitch as one of the greatest footballers the world has ever seen, and every player in my squad was honoured to share the field with him.”
