New IBS approach?. #LongCovid patients can benefit fro it(rodent study)
“Our results suggest that NOX1-derived H2O2 is a resource that governs bacterial growth and survival in close proximity to the mucosal surface during gut homeostasis.”

@LarryGreer20@Alec_Zeck This is what sells these days, you'll never convince carnivore zealot by providing CVD evidence(s), while meat only diet got him to feel or look better.
@danka_mm@AndrewMeffan@AntoineMECFS Possibly, but why immune system "fails" to clear it comparing to healthy individuals? Why dormancy "reactivation" happens among ME patients? Must be immune "error", some modulators fails, questions is which ones and most important why?
@danka_mm@AndrewMeffan@AntoineMECFS Question is what has changed "permanently", which keeps people stuck for decades. Factors which dynamically changes are eg. hormones, biochemicals like insuline, microbiome, but permanent changes happens primarily on DNA level, eg vit B12 directly encodes it. It must be a source
@whitfieldlewis6 Microbial link:
Saturated fats are link to dysbiosis(eg. PMCID: PMC4797936, 37562163) which may result in lower SCFA production, which in long run:
"Increasing evidence suggests that SCFAs can improve the occurrence and progression of atherosclerosis."

@Agata25A@thehealthb0t I meant SCFA producing commensal bacteria like Bifidobacterium, Lactobacillus, Akkermansia etc. You may have just low level of certain strains and overgrowth others(dysbiosis), which can result in cholesterol synthesis suppression and low levels of clearing LDL receptors.
@seanstidston You have probably done it already, but first place I would look for answers would be stomach, issues like GERT of EoE, often triggered simply by foods like dairy, wheat, alcohol, coffeine etc.
@Agata25A@thehealthb0t Short-Chain Fatty Acids(especially butyrate) production can suppress cholesterol synthesis in the liver and increase the number of receptors that clear LDL from your blood, low levels would have opposite effect. I’d do microbial sequencing test.
@StevePhillipsMD I don't think it's that simple at all, not for chronically ill person. Root cause of GI dysbiosis needs to be correctly addressed, if patient deals with eg. SIBO/SIFO, cholestasis, gastroparesis, migrating motor complex issues, then dietary changes might not be enough.
@hannahspierMD@hanson_pb I strongly recommend to check DecodeME (University of Edinburgh), the largest genetic study, can be systematically compared to cancer-related genes.
@PGC1a_RB I would do DAO genetic test first, to evaluate AOC1/HNMT genes for histamine intolerance. If you have this genetic variant you may produce low DAO, which will result in breaking down histamine.
@newstart_2024 Gut health is way beyond Bifidobacterium, and saying Long Covid patients has low levels of it is false, one of the patients I know have solid numbers of Bifido, but v. low numbers of Lactobacillus acidofillus, and Candida albican overgrowth. But yes, GI health is important topic.
@WIRED "Brain training" is classified by scientific field as a pseudoscience. Long Covid/MECFS/Lyme etc. are 100% physical illnesses both on cellular and microbial level.
@LORWEN108 Hormones play a role in how your body stores and burns energy, but the key driver rather you lose or gain weight is energy balance. Many scientists for some reason over complicate this simple fact.
@danaparish Bartonella resides in cells called vacuoles (BCVs), and drugs such as beta-lactams or tetracycline(eg. Doxycyclin), struggle to penetrate membrane to reach bacteria, making it ineffective.
@manruipa Speaking MS, two pathobionts bacterium:
"Our results implicate two Lachnospiraceae members, namely Eisenbergiella tayi and Lachnoclostridium, as likely responsible for an increased incidence of disease."

@SBakerMD Read it, interesting due to the fact microbial diversity was comparable to omnivore subjects, but n=10 only, everything was self reported. Firmicutes, SCFA producers lower in carnivores, which is definitely major disadvantage, inflammation markers are also concerning.
