Election law expert @beckerdavidj looks at the stakes in this election. It's not a question of red or blue, but right or wrong, democracy sustained or democracy lost. Listen to "This Critical Moment," episode 5 of THE COUNT with David Becker. Listen: https://t.co/XOntjO09Il
A new PSA campaign from @csselex features veterans, law enforcement leaders & election officials united in their call for stronger protections for election workers. They're confident in our system & the people dedicated to protecting it.

Our system isn't broken. @maricopacounty is counting ballots faster than ever and on pace with every other state. Arizona law requires processes that dictate the timing by which we count the ballots. More importantly: I'll take accuracy and security over speed every time.
95+% of all US voters vote on audited, verified paper. 100% of swing state voters vote on audited, verified paper. Musk doesn’t have the slightest idea how elections work, and he’s clearly not interested in learning.
One strategy to build confidence in elections?
“They can become a poll worker. They can become a poll observer. They can watch the audits of the voting equipment,” Wolfe told VOA.” All of that is open for [the] public to view.”

A new report from researchers at @BPC_Bipartisan & @UCLA finds that despite higher turnover, current election officials bring significant experience to their roles and are often prepared to take them on or get up to speed quickly.

NEW: Pinal County spent at least $150K on an independent audit to prove to a losing candidate/the public that its primary election was fair.
Auditors announced yesterday that the candidate's claims were "completely unsupported."

Election attorney Ben Ginsberg joined fellow conservatives in co-authoring a report that examined 2020 election lawsuits. “The evidence to back up the allegations of fraud and elections being unreliable simply does not exist,” he says. https://t.co/jL2jUna3K7

Transparency measures like this from local election officials help increase trust in our elections. “We want people to come witness the electoral process first-hand” says Napa County Registrar of Voters John Tuteur https://t.co/MWPJPvoAVy
Hi @grassrootarmy and @biggertruth! 👋 Ingham County Clerk Barb Byrum here! Saw your video and, woof, there is so much inaccuracy here I may exceed the thread limit. But let’s see. 🧵
After the debate and the recent polls, we’re likely to see a significant increase in dangerous election lies and disinfo in the next few weeks, from foreign adversaries, Trump’s campaign, and his allies, including the owner of this platform. Remember to seek out only OFFICIAL election info, from trusted sources like election officials. A good place to start is https://t.co/ebx2nA2kOW, which will direct you to your official state election site.
Hi @MikeRogersforMI 👋 Ingham County Clerk Barb Byrum here! I see you misinforming Michigan residents about our Voter ID laws in the State of Michigan and I need to set the record straight here. 🧵
A "lack of understanding" certainly sums it all up.
"In Georgia, state officials said the Schlapp letter reflected a lack of understanding of Georgia election law, which already requires counties to install drop boxes inside election offices..."

“@stephen_richer has taken as much abuse and harassment as almost any election official in the country and responded with grace and transparency and humor,” Becker said. “He’s the reason people like me do the work we do.” https://t.co/qyiFWI6AwF
Happy National Poll Worker Recruitment Day! Find out how you can step up to help serve your fellow citizens - and democracy - this fall: #PollWorkerRecruitmentDay

Thank you for your service to democracy, your humor, and your humility, @stephen_richer. You've shown the nation how public service and election administration *should* be done - with decency and respect for the law and without nasty partisan rancor and unfounded bullshit.
It's been a privilege. Thank you.
Elections have winners and, sadly, losers. And in this one, it looks like I'm going to end up on the losing side of the column.
But that's the name of the game. Accept it. Move on.
Congratulations to @azjustinheap on winning the primary (I haven't called him yet to congratulate him because calling him at 7:00 AM seems... unsportsmanlike?).
In my remaining 4 months in office, I will be sure to:
1)
Ensure the continued efficient and lawful execution of my duties in recording, voter registration, and mail voting.
I'm so proud of how my team (@RecordersOffice) did this election. Our voter rolls were in better shape than they've ever been. Mail voting went off without a hitch.
And on the Board of Supervisors side (@MaricopaVote, @maricopacounty), they executed an amazing in-person election yesterday. It was basically serene at the office.
We had over 800k votes in this election.
But we will likely have over 2 million in Maricopa County in November, so buckle up!
2)
Ensure that either @azjustinheap or @TimStringhamAZ has everything he needs to hit the ground running in January 2025.
My predecessor (@Adrian_Fontes) showed grace, class, professionalism, and selflessness in how he handled the transition.
And considering she embodies class and professionalism, I'm sure Helen Purcell did the same.
So I won't be the one to drop the baton!
(Note: one of my friends said the Maricopa County Recorder's Office is basically like teaching Defense Against the Dark Arts. It's cursed. So best wishes to my successor!)
.......................
As for me, I'm excited for whatever comes next. And if it's back in business, out of the spotlight, well ... that sounds just dandy!
I'll likely be writing some longer form stuff in the future. I've subjected you all to some of my longer reports before (in many ways this journey really got going when I wrote my 38-page open letter to Arizona Republicans in 2021). It's something I enjoy, and the last few years have given me a lot to think about in terms of election administration, democracy, politics, humans, etc.
That's for another day, but for my last bit today -- the most important bit -- THANK YOU to the people who worked in my office the past 4 years and the people who supported my political efforts. You're the best.
Onward!

This is the story that needs the nation's attention now and for the next 100+ days - we *must* insist our election boards across the country uphold their legally mandated duties.
