This year is the 90th anniversary of the Battle of Cable Street, which saw Jews and their allies stop Mosley's Blackshirts marching through the Jewish East End.
Yet the organisers of an 'official' commemoration minimised the role of Jews in the story, and even declared the Jewish groups marching with relatives of those who fought on the day to be 'not welcome'
Eve Kay co-founded Cable Street Jews to put Jews back into Cable Street, and here she asks how a commemorative march that should have been about solidarity against anti-Semitism could end up marginalising Jews and the relatives of those who were actually there.

I've seen a lot of commentary pointing out the logical contradictions in calling Israel an apartheid state when Arabs not only vote but may even play a decisive role in determining who the next prime minister will be. While exposing the absurdity may be satisfying, it assumes that the apartheid libel is meant to be a rational claim.
The apartheid libel is a trope of antizionism—and there is about as much hope of persuading someone who believes it to recognize its contradictions as there is of persuading someone who believes Jews murder Christian children to use their blood in matzoh that consuming blood is prohibited by Jewish law.
Antizionist tropes exist for their emotive power and propaganda value. They function to stigmatize Israelis and justify violence against them. Those who promote these tropes have no expectation of having to defend them as rational claims.
Last night a number of us spoke to people going in to watch the NAZA film at Phoenix Cinema.
We asked viewers to take a QR code which directed them to a second documentary, one that presents an alternative view.
Many people took the flyer and said they would watch the documentary, but some rejected the idea outright, deciding ahead of time that it would be 'all lies'.
If you are also prepared to consider all sides, then please watch and share the video at the link below.

I’m thrilled to share that my short book will soon be published in Hebrew by Tchelet Books, one of Israel’s leading publishing houses, and will be available digitally and in bookstores within weeks. Hamas: The Enemy of Gaza brings to Israeli readers a Palestinian perspective on the complex reality of life in Gaza under Hamas, challenging the common perception that the group enjoys broad popular support. Blending the story of Hamas’s rise to power with my own experiences and insights, the book offers a concise account of how the terror group became one of the greatest disasters to befall the Palestinian people. It examines the historical, political, regional, religious, and strategic forces that enabled Hamas’s entrenchment, while also highlighting Israeli policies that shaped its trajectory and contributed to the path leading to October 7. I will share details on how to obtain a copy as soon as they become available in Israel.
I am also pleased to share that my short book will be translated and published in four additional languages: Greek, Italian, Norwegian, and French, with efforts underway to secure a German publisher. Importantly, with the help of several allies, I am also working to have the book published in Arabic. That effort has proven challenging, as many publishers deem it “too controversial” because of its unequivocal opposition to Hamas’s “resistance” narrative and my argument and declaration that the group is holding Gaza’s Palestinians hostage to its Islamist, jihadist, and ultimately nihilistic ideology and agendas.

Thanks to everyone who joined us this evening outside Phoenix Cinema to talk to people going in to watch NAZA.
All we asked of viewers was to be open-minded enough to watch the alternative view. We shared a leaflet with a QR code to find the free film.
Many people took the flyer and said they would watch the documentary, but some rejected the idea outright, deciding ahead of time that it would be 'all lies'.
And of course, as is increasingly the way nowadays, the venue called the police.
Reassuringly, the police had no problem with our presence and many customers were prepared to take a leaflet and keep an open mind.

@PaynterBar43153@BritUnited@nazadocumentary Your entitled to think that of course. And the best way to find out if that's true would be to watch both films, surely?
And then you could move from simply firing off trite accusations, and respond with some substance.
That's what thinking for yourself is all about.
@Fvckutvitter@nazadocumentary It doesn't matter how many times you repeat it, it doesn't make your case stronger: rejecting the accusation that you did not do something is not proof that you did do it.
By saying that you *wouldn't* look at "both sides" in relation to the Holocaust, you imply that Israel is behaving like the Nazis.
That sadly shows a real lack of understanding of what happened during the Holocaust, and a wilful ignorance of what is happening now in Gaza.
But it's a circular argument: you accuse people of behaving like the Nazis, and then say that means you don't need to listen to them.
The danger for you of course is that if you *did* listen to them, you would discover they are not behaving like the Nazis, and that would puncture your bubble.
And read the rest of the posts—plenty of people are calling us Nazis.
You are making our point.
We don't believe there is a genocide in Gaza. We also believe that the claim that there *is* a genocide is not based on 'proof'. We therefore ask people to be more open-minded when weighing up what is presented as 'proof', and we asked people to watch a second documentary as part of that.
You are not only saying that you disagree with this second documentary, but far worse: you are saying that anyone that even suggests people should think for themselves and watch it is a "genocidal liar".
Of course you're free to say and think what you like. But it's this kind of bullyboy tactics that is destroying our political culture, and is doing nothing for the people of Gaza.
@SayWhatYerLike@moiazam@nazadocumentary How is asking people to watch two films instead of one "lapping up" anything?
You are seeing only what you want to see.
Outside of Phoenix Cinema yesterday as the film NAZA was being shown. The term NAZA refers to an Israeli military target-acquisition system or process, which includes tracking of targets and proportionality assessments. War is horrible, but it seems that this is an argument against the genolibel.
For balance I will watch both. I have watched the documentary below.

And just to confirm it’s a Geno-lie!
@OurFightUk again at the forefront of fighting antisemitism.
@Fragge5@moiazam@nazadocumentary That's convenient for you: any view that might challenge your way of thinking you dismiss in advance as "Nazi", and therefore to be avoided.
A reassuring circular reaffirmation of your virtue.
