Last night, @TucsonRomero and the City Council passed a historic policy to protect our water and promote economic & environmental justice. This is a huge victory and we're so proud of every single one of you who wrote, called, or spoke at a meeting. /🧵

Great news: developers will no longer be able to get away with ignoring our rainwater harvesting law. The City hired new staff to enforce the law, and developers have started complying. Big thank you to Tucson City Council Member Kevin Dahl for leading the charge on this.
TEP is lying to the public in an attempt to get permission from the City Council to build a power substation in a flood zone. They're trying to cut corners and maximize profit at the expense of our vulnerable populations, who will suffer power outages. Tucson deserves better.
@TEPenergy@TucsonRomero That is false. The current bank protection is 1,000 feet upstream and will NOT protect the substation site from erosion, according to Pima County engineers. Documents show TEP hid the alternative sites from the City Council, city staff, % the Zoning Examiner. TEP misled the city.

.@TEPenergy plans to build an electrical substation on the river in a spot with a history of flooding. When it floods we'll lose power. TEP hid the alternatives because this site is cheapest for them. Tell @TucsonRomero to say No to the Cottonwood Substation. People over profits!
For Star subscribers: An ordinance requested by the Tucson City Council would ban "nonfunctional" grass in many new commercial and apartment developments. Another plan would phase out such grass in existing developments, but not homes. https://t.co/6gKidi3akl
A developer in town wants zoning restrictions lifted so they can bulldoze valuable desert and build high-density, unaffordable housing. Tell @TucsonRomero and the City Council what you think at the hearing NEXT TUESDAY, February 8th: full details below 👇
Thank you to Mayor @TucsonRomero and our City Council for protecting our water and resisting the pernicious efforts by international mining companies and AZ Republicans to destroy our sacred Santa Rita mountains.
The Rosemont Mine must be stopped.
I will always fight to protect the people of #Tucson and protect the Sonoran Desert. Arid regions, like #Arizona, cannot put our precious water resources at risk.

@budfoster This is ridiculous. The people of Tucson have spoken loud and clear: we're done giving away our precious water for so little just so developers and rich people in the Catalina Foothills can rake in profits and live in luxury while our water supply runs dry. Accept it and move on.
Thank you @mattheinzmd and @SupGrijalva for supporting differential rates and voting against filing this lawsuit. You have been on the right side of history throughout this entire fight and the people will remember.
.@TucsonRomero is right. This vote and the potential lawsuit are ridiculous. It's time for developers and rich folks in the Foothills to start paying their fair share. The days of Tucsonans giving away our precious water for so little are finally over. Accept it and move on.
Today’s vote by the Pima BOS lacks any legal basis and is purely symbolic.
The cost-of-service study - which was conducted by the same 3rd party PC uses in setting its wastewater rates - shows that it costs up to 26% more to serve water to unincorporated Pima County.
@TucsonStar It's about time the rich folks in the Catalina Foothills start paying their fair share. We've been giving them our water for unfairly low prices for far too long.
The differential rates policy is also a key first step toward adapting to the droughts that will define our future.
We call on @TucsonRomero and the City Council to fulfill the promise they made in June to cancel water bill debt. Last week they voted to cancel debt for just 17% of the families in debt, unfairly leaving out 15,000 families for unclear and unadvertised reasons. #CancelTheDebt
