Last month I came to an important decision.
I was walking the Camino de Santiago and reflecting on what’s in store for 2024.
After some thought, I concluded that between several weddings and the holiday season I’d be home in Los Angeles for at least 5 months.
This would leave me with far less time in Spain than ordinary, and even less in Madrid.
So, I decided to end my lease.
A rather painful decision, as I love my roommates and loved my flat.
And because having a home base in Spain is important to me.
But a sensible one nonetheless.
Since then, I’ve packed my bags and returned to the Los Angeles to spend the holidays with family.
Something I look forward to come Winter every year.
But this time feels different.
A significant chapter in my life has come to an end, and for it I’m expectedly sad.
However, a new chapter is beginning. One in which Spain is fantastically involved.
Come March 2024, with no lease holding me still, I plan to spend 6 months traveling around the country, visiting towns and cities both new and familiar.
I have no doubt moving around and lacking routine will be difficult; but it will be an adventure.
Running this account has been a highlight of my life. After all, nothing beckons my passion as does Spain.
I’m sure I’ll settle in Spain again one day soon. Probably even in Madrid.
But for now: something new.
A series of journeys that will take me to every corner of the country.
And it starts in 2024.
