To pretend there was a lack of diversity in these civilizations does a disservice to our modern understandings of these complex cultures. That's why, in our film, we presented Ovid's story with a cast that more closely resembled the actual community around this influential poet

No, the Vikings were not diverse. Neither was early Rome. Nor early Greece.

Stomping on the history of these groups, in order to accommodate today's obsession with representation, is not right.

No. The Roman Empire was a diverse empire. It included parts of Europe, the Middle East and Africa. For years, Romans were depicted often as a bunch of white Britons - which is absurd because Britain was barely in the empire.

There was no outcry about that then or calling that white-washing sinister.
