Large overgrown site? Apprehensive about cost of topo for outline planning? Site mapping, #tree wound inspection and a whole host of other applications. The addition of a professional UAV to the #arb toolbox is already proving extremely useful for both planning and safety clients

Interestingly following trying QmetaTiles plugin to make a tiled ortho (it failed) it turns out that the facility is built into #QGIS xyztiles in raster tools,(it succeeded). Really enjoying refreshing GIS knowhow with free QGIS software.

Just for fun (actually it's work but is fun!) I'm making my own custom MBtiles map using @qgis for use in @LocusGis of a woodland flight and @DroneDeploy to create HD #Orthomosaic images. I'll use this map as a base for data capture on the coming survey days #GIS #Arb

@m0ppd I've obv not seen tree but a good TS would be able to spec a suitable reduction in my opinion that would be as mitigative in the immediate term. Without total defoliation. Remember it's easier to do crap tree work. You don't have to climb as hard.

@m0ppd Get as many quotes as you can. Don't let contractors tell you too much as to what you want. If it's topped you'll be left with a hat stand for potentially 3-5yrs. Before a meaningful volume of foliage returns.

@m0ppd This depends greatly on the vitality of the tree and it's ability to regenerate photosynthetic area. Don't forget you would be totally removing the trees ability to generate energy. Regeneration of foliage would be entirely from storage. The risk is a kick like that might end it.

@m0ppd 1/2 There's something wrong with that tree. What I would say about "pollarding" (read topping) is that it's an acceptable practice in instances where the tree owner may wish to retain an ailing tree. Get it looked at properly by a competent TS. Particularly the base.
