@IanPitchford@aswren did he consider the ways that writing about it and campaigning as a political candidate could force his victims to relive that trauma? To see your rapist on the NYT Best Books list, turning your rape into a story about their personal journey?
@MarkersinWI@PotatoMcWhiskey I've said he should have stayed home three times now. The fact that he made a dumb decision doesn't oblige him to let others assault him.
@Blarg08125613@PhilKlay It is different, I grant you that. I'm not convinced indexing on the rate of change rather than absolute status is the right frame here, but I see where you are coming from.
@Blarg08125613@PhilKlay one liberal argument might go "it is precisely illiberal movements on the left which raised the salience of race that caused the current racist backlash". E.g., EO 11246 withstood Nixon, Reagan, both Bush admins. Only post 2020 did Trump axe it.
@Blarg08125613@PhilKlay Which period are you thinking of re: "the social liberalism that preceded it"? FDR? LBJ? I think it is quite hard to make the argument that open racism is worse now than in the 60s, even more so the 30s.
@Blarg08125613@PhilKlay That idea is unobjectionable. What I don't see is a mechanism between Hayek's blind spot in that regard and the current admin. It is more of a family resemblance: "Hayek is racist and the admin is racist". Ok--but if Sunstein read more Hayek, we'd have a different admin?
@radleftie@AnneMarieFlynn2@kristoph@nickmmark correct...the previous posts note this, so I'm not sure why you think mentioning it again does anything for you.
When you account for foreign grads, there are not enough slots. Have to expand residencies or limit foreign grads.

@AnneMarieFlynn2@radleftie@kristoph@nickmmark I didn't say they were taking in unqualified students. Everyone they take in is qualified. But they are also turning away many qualified students. They don't have the capacity and are concerned about expanding because of the lack of residency slots.
@radleftie@kristoph@AnneMarieFlynn2@nickmmark That's a silly strawman. Not every candidate is qualified. But I know *many* candidates who were qualified and did not make it. They could have been great doctors.
@donpark@kristoph@nickmmark The post is referring to med school acceptance rates. If you know people in this area, you know strong students who would make great doctors but never got accepted.
@WB_Baskerville my read: the murderer was a repeat offender and murder wouldn't have happened if he was imprisoned. Therefore, more prison time for repeat offenders.
