People living abroad often feel very lonely, and they're at risk of mental health issues. Don't always think of only what you can get from them. Try to confirm that they're truly fine. Check up on them genuinely.

My cousin has been in Canada for six years.
Every month, money lands in my aunt's account.
School fees, house rent, his younger ones' upkeep.
Everybody calls him the family's blessing.

He called last Christmas.
Laughing and asking about everyone.
He sounded fine.
I asked: "How are you doing over there?"
He said: "I'm managing. Canada is good o."

He visited two years ago. We killed a goat.
The whole family came out.
He was smiling in every photo.
Nobody noticed he had lost weight.
I noticed. But I didn't say anything.
I thought maybe it was the cold.

Last month, his friend called my aunt.
Said my cousin had not been eating well.
That some months he sends everything and keeps nothing.
That he cries sometimes. Alone at night.
That he had been doing this for years.

My aunt was quiet for a long time.
Then she said:
"But he never said anything."

...
Well, he never said anything.
Because nobody ever asked beyond "how is Canada?"

Someone asked why does fish/earthworm and Snails react vlo|ent|y when salt is poured on them.

It's another Learning O'clock - grab your notepad 😎

The whole drama comes from one simple science principle:

OSMOSIS!

Basically when the water inside their bodies is forced out to balance a salty environment. Think of it as nature saying: “Water, shift!”

When you pour salt on these creatures, the outside becomes more concentrated than the inside. To balance things, water starts rushing out of their cells.

The Result?

Rapid dehydration, stress, and sharp reactions sometimes fatal.

Fish skin is covered with a delicate slime layer called "Slime Coat" that protects them and helps maintain their internal water balance. When salt hits that skin, it drags water out of their cells through osmosis.

The effect is sharp, painful, and stressful almost like pouring hot pepper on open wound.

Freshwater fish (like catfish) usually live in water that has less salt than their bodies. So their system is built to push water out gently. But when you suddenly add plenty salt: The outside becomes saltier than the fish itself... Water starts rushing out through the slime coat.

Their cells shrink like squeezed sponge. They go into shock that vlo|ent reaction you see is the body trying to survive

For SNAILS
Snails and salt no be friends at all. Their whole body is basically a bag of water covered with thin, moist skin. Once salt touches that skin, it dissolves their slime and instantly creates a super salty mix. Their body tries to fight back by releasing more mucus to dilute the salt, but the more they try, the more water they lose.

That “melting” effect you see when you add salt to snail is not magic... iit’s rapid dehydration. To a snail, salt is practically a d€æth sentence.

For EARTHWORMS
Earthworms also depend heavily on moisture not just for movement but to breathe. Their entire oxygen exchange happens through their wet skin. When salt lands on them, the salt sucks up their moisture like sponge, drying out the surface they need to survive. They twist, shrink, and react vlo|ent|y because they’re literally suffocating and dehydrating at the same time. Salt is one of the fastest ways to overwhelm an earthworm’s body system.
