"Great Balls of Fire" is one of rock and roll's most explosive and iconic songs, performed by Jerry Lee Lewis and released in 1957.
Written by Otis Blackwell and Jack Hammer, it was recorded on October 8, 1957, at Sun Studios in Memphis with Jerry Lee on piano and vocals, accompanied by a session bassist and drummer.
It became a massive hit, selling a million copies in just ten days in the United States and reaching number 2 on the Billboard charts.
The song stands out for its frenetic rhythm, Jerry Lee Lewis’s wild piano style, and his boundless energy, which made him one of the great pioneers of rock alongside Elvis Presley.
There is also a 1989 biopic titled Great Balls of Fire! starring Dennis Quaid, which chronicles the artist’s early life. It remains an absolute rock and roll classic and one of the most recognizable songs in the history of popular music.
