URGENT INTAKE ๐จ
Welcome Ollie to 8 Below Husky Rescue ๐
Meet Ollie, a stunning 18-month-old Alaskan Malamute who has found himself in a situation no dog should ever be in!
Ollie was imported from overseas after a family applied to adopt him here in the UK. Tragically, when he arrived at what was supposed to be his forever home, nobody answered the door. The family had changed their minds, leaving this young boy stuck in a transporters van with nowhere to go.
What makes this situation even more frustrating is that no checks had been carried out and nobody had met the adopters before Ollie was flown into the UK. We cannot stress enough how irresponsible this is. Rescues have a duty of care to the animals they place, and transporting a dog internationally without proper checks and safeguards puts them at enormous risk. It is a practice we do not condone and one that could have ended far worse for Ollie.
We received a desperate call to help Ollie, and stepped in immediately yo offer him the safety and security he deserved.
Despite all of this, Ollie is an absolutely incredible boy. He has the biggest heart, a beautiful nature, and a wonderfully cheeky Malamute personality that shines through.
Sadly, his coat has also been shaved right down to the skin, apparently in an attempt to keep him cool. As many of you will know, double-coated breeds such as Malamutes should not be shaved as their coats help regulate their temperature and protect their skin.
Ollie is now safe and finally able to relax. We promised this handsome boy that his next journey will be very different. We will take the time to find him the safe, loving, and responsible forever home he truly deserves. ๐งก
Welcome to the 8 Below family, Ollie. Your future starts here ๐พ
If you would like to support the work we do and help us continue being there for dogs like Ollie when they have nowhere else to turn, we would be incredibly grateful.

The plastic ring around a duck's beak doesn't kill it fast. It starves it slowly. 2 seconds and a couple cuts fixes this problem.
A duck with a ring stuck on its bill can't open its mouth to eat. It can't fish. It can't preen. It tries to scrape the ring off against rocks, branches, mud, anything, until its bill is raw and it's exhausted from the effort.
Wildlife rehabbers see this constantly in waterfowl: cranes, geese, ducks, pelicans, and herons. The birds in the photo below are three out of millions.
The fix takes about two seconds. Cut every plastic loop you encounter before throwing it away. Six-pack rings, jug seals, the rings around milk caps, dog treat bag tops, mask ear loops. Snip every closed circle into an open line.
You won't see the bird your snip saved, but the ring you cut tonight isn't out there waiting to choke a tern next year. It's already a piece of broken plastic on its way to a landfill, no longer a snare for anything.

War is a horrific thing; these men left their loved ones to enter its hellish cauldron. Some never returned. We remember their immense bravery and sacrifices to defeat fascism so that they should never be necessary again.

Please retweet to help AURORA FIND A HOME โ 11 YEARS OLD ๐ธ May e able to re home nationally, see details below #England#Wales#Scotland#UK
Beautiful Aurora is searching for a calm and loving forever home where she can enjoy all the comfort, care, and love she deserves in her golden years. ๐
Aurora may be a senior lady, but she still enjoys getting out and about, exploring new places, and spending quality time with her people. She walks beautifully on the lead and is an absolute pleasure to take out for gentle adventures.
At the moment, Aurora is a little unsteady on her back legs, so she will need shorter, slower walks while she gradually rebuilds the muscle in her back end. Despite this, she remains bright, loving, and eager to enjoy life.
Although Aurora is absolutely fine around other dogs when out and about, she would prefer to have her own space at home and is therefore looking for a home where she can be the only dog in the household.
Aurora knows her basic commands, is very food motivated, and still enjoys learning for tasty treats. She is a gentle, loyal soul who would make a truly wonderful companion for someone looking for a loving best friend by their side. ๐พ
Could you offer Aurora the peaceful forever home sheโs been waiting for? ๐กโค๏ธ

The swifts are seen trying to return to their nests and the nests are no longer there

Across Britain, neighbors are cutting small holes in the bottoms of their fences on purpose, and you should too.
The holes are for hedgehogs. A hedgehog can cover a mile or more in a single night hunting for food and mates, and a solid fence turns every backyard into a dead end. So conservation groups made it a movement: a gap about five inches square, cut at ground level, linking yard to yard into what they call a hedgehog highway.
The US doesn't have wild hedgehogs, but we have all the animals that hit the same wall. Toads, salamanders, box turtles, chipmunks, young rabbits: each one small enough to be stopped cold by a privacy fence, and each one needing more ground than a single lot to live a normal life. To a box turtle, a solid fence can be the edge of the reachable world.
The fix is the one the Brits landed on. A palm-sized gap at the bottom, down where the small things travel. Your fence still does its job, the neighborhood stops being a series of wildlife prisons, and your yard stitches itself back into the larger map.

Urgent, please retweet to help Ella find a home #Essex- can re home to other areas #UK

ELLA DESPERATELY NEED A FOSTER OR FOREVER!
SHE'S MAKING ALL HER FEET BLEED FROM STRESSING SO MUCH IN KENNELS ๐๐
Ella is a retired Hampshire Police Dog who was born December 2020. She had to be retired as she lost her bark! Ella is microchipped and spayed and we are told fully vaccinated. Sadly needs a new home as she is not very children tolerant and Hampshire Police are not interested in taking her back as they say an agreement was signed so not their problem anymore!
Ella is selective with other dogs but has actually improved since being in her new owner since May this year. A no to cats. Fine with adults, including delivery drivers, but has had operational bites during her working time as you would expect. Fine being left with no destruction but she does have an outside kennel. She comes indoors at night and sleeps in a crate.
As you would also expect. Ella is good on lead, recall and has extensive commands, and of course is very toy driven! No issues over food or toys and fine with vets.
Ella was taken into foster with a view to adopt however, sadly her foster mum is unable to commit to her long term due to health issues and feels she needs a โstrongerโ home. She now lives happily in the house with another dog, so no problems there, and likes a crate for her safe space. Needs further work with not reacting to other dogs when out and about on lead.
Anyone who has Mali experience and wants a fun girl with loads going for her, Ella is definitely for you!
Sharing is caring.

Unfortunately, these photos were all taken on Southend seafront over the last week, as the heatwave brought thousands of visitors to the city.
But have you ever wondered what happens to the litter after the crowds leave the beach?
Early each morning, while most people are still waking up, cleaning teams are already out making sure the beaches, paths and public areas are tidy and ready again by 8am.
It is a huge daily operation, especially during busy periods like the Bank Holiday weekend, when thousands of people head to Southend for the sun, sea and seafront attractions.
Across more than seven miles of coastline, SUEZ crews work incredibly hard to clear tonnes of litter left behind after busy days.
Their work includes picking up litter by hand, using litter pickers, emptying hundreds of bins and using specialist equipment, including a mechanical beach rake, to sift through the sand and remove waste.
The teams also stay on the seafront throughout the day, clearing litter where they can and keeping bins emptied as visitor numbers build.
On a busy summer weekend, up to 20 tonnes of waste can be collected from the seafront alone. That's roughly the same amount of waste produced by around 22 households in an entire year.
By the time visitors arrive each morning, there is often very little sign of what came before.
It is an incredible effort from the crews working behind the scenes to keep Southend looking its best during the busiest and hottest days of the year. ๐
