Extremely happy to share our recent paper on two cloudburst events occurred over Chennai (30-31 August 2025) & Kolkata (22-23 September). The paper is unique as we attempted to identify the key processes and provide a conceptual framework for cloudburst

Pleased to share our recent paper on analyses of suites of observations and model forecast for the extreme rainfall event during 9-10 July over Delhi NCR. Models could reasonably forecast with short lead but still struggle to get the amount & location. https://t.co/dzJnljZYSG
India leads the world in hyper-local weather forecasting, outpacing the US, EU, and UK with precise alerts for storms, heatwaves, and cyclones. Farmers receive timely rainfall warnings, and emergency teams respond faster—turning disaster management from reactive to predictive.

There was a continuous debate about how to make the ensemble prediction system products useful to operational forecasters. To address this question, @Snehlata Tirkey etal. published this paper where a derails is provided to decide on extreme event forecast https://t.co/fIGnQUGfOk
A very special occasion of formal inauguration of our book on South Asian Monsoon by dignitaries at Atria University, Bengaluru today. Proud to be part of the function
Will request all to please listen to the most authentic narrative straight from the scientists the developers who built with extreme dedication the Bharat Forecasting System model in a span of 5 years and put India on top of globe in the following YouTube

@arjunghosh@RockSea Why do we need to ask. The paper is published on 18 March in EGU GMD and widely circulated abd the contributing authors are clearly mentioned. In science this is enough. But people denies a published work and it's contributors then there is no point further
A landmark initiative that we started in IITM in 2017 came to completion by launch of Bharat Forecast System on 26th May. The complete sequence of the development is reported by The Telegraph https://t.co/HjB10HFntQ
I have immense respect for the women mentioned here—they have done outstanding research in their respective fields. That said, I would like to clarify that the forecast system being referred to was developed by a different team of scientists at IITM. The core development, over the years, was led by Drs. Mukhopadhyay, Prajeesh, Phani Murali, and Siddharth.
The attached publication outlines the development process and the key contributors.

A landmark achievement and momentus occasion tomorrow while the high resolution (6km) global forecast model named as "Bharat Forecast System " developed by IITM (our own group) will be dedicated to the nation by Hon'ble Minister of MoES Dr. Jitendra Singh https://t.co/kc9HNL5Ndx
Delighted to organize the launch of our recent book " South Asian Summer Monsoon: Processes, predictions and societal impacts" published by Elsevier on 6th June, 0200 PM at @atriauniversity
