Some aspects considered in developing the JJAS livestock sector mitigating actions include the risk of drought, heat stress, disease and conflict which affect pasture availability, feed access and animal body conditions.

A coordinated response mechanism ensures access to available resources is timely to minimize the impact of seasonal climate changes.

When droughts, floods, and other climate shocks strike, the ability to act early can make the difference between resilience and crisis.

📍 In Turkana County, RCMRD recently conducted a Geospatial and UAV Training under the @PASSAGEProject_ Project, equipping participants with practical skills in GIS, Remote Sensing, spatial analysis, UAV operations, image processing, and geospatial data integration for effective anticipatory action.

Key stakeholders from @KEFRIHQ , @NDMA_Kenya , the @TurkanaCountyKE and @NemaKenya gained hands-on experience in collecting, analyzing, and visualizing geospatial data to support evidence-based decision-making in climate adaptation, agricultural planning, environmental monitoring, and resource management.

Funded by #CLimateAdaptationREsilience @IDRC_CRDI and @FCDOResearch and implemented through collaboration between RCMRD and partners, the training is helping strengthen institutional capacity to anticipate risks, make informed decisions, and build more resilient communities

ICPALD in partnership with a diverse team of @PASSAGEProject_ co-implementers has been addressing #resilience gaps in transboundary areas of the IGAD region, using co-produced Anticipatory Action plans to build resilience in vulnerable pastoral communities.

Today's project review meeting focused on knowledge products and publications aspects of the ongoing project.

While opening the session on behalf of Director @DerejeWaq, @Dr_Kathiya said, "This is the time to accurately depict and show what we have worked on during the last three years".

ICPALD, under the @PASSAGEProject_ , in collaboration with NDMA, has convened an engagement to pilot community-led drought risk narratives for the Somali Cluster.

The initiative brings together communities, technical experts & local authorities to co-produce impact-based advisories by integrating scientific forecasts with local knowledge to support timely #AnticipatoryAction (AA).

This engagement strengthens community capacity to interpret early warning information, refine locally relevant advisories & enhance coordination for early action, which supports scaling of locally led AA and strengthens #resilience across pastoral communities.

Earth Observation is transforming how we understand environmental change and respond to climate risks.

Through the @PASSAGEProject_ ,we are strengthening institutional capacity by equipping practitioners with practical skills in satellite data analysis to support informed decision-making.

We have successfully conducted a 5-day Introductory Training on Earth Observation under the #PASSAGE Project. The training brought together key partners, among them @NemaKenya @KEFRIHQ @NDMA_Kenya , and the County Government of Turkana.

Participants gained hands-on experience in land cover mapping, surface water monitoring, and invasive species detection-critical tools for evidence-based planning and early warning systems.

RCMRD under @PASSAGEProject_ is collecting data on #invasivespecies, particularly #Prosopis juliflora, alongside surface water mapping and land cover map validation in #marsabitcounty.
In collaboration with Kenya Forestry Research Institute and the County Government of Marsabit, the team is also engaging with local communities affected by these evergreen invasives—raising awareness about their impacts and promoting alternative uses to help reduce infestation and protect critical grazing and productive areas.
