The constant implication in the term "learning loss" that a 1 year disruption/slowdown in learning can never be made up is really really odd to me.
This paper explicitly says it.
I'm saying recognize that if they have attained this level, notwithstanding coming from low-income families, coming from families where they have no one who can help them, no cousin who went to that school, that THAT is exceptional, and that deserves recognition.
