God: “The Royals will go to 2 World Series in a row and win one of them in spectacular fashion, but they will be terrible again just a few years later.”
Me:
@RobDesselle Because of succession, this is the same front office going on 2 decades. Only 11 current GMs are longer tenured than JJ. He’s overseen the drafts since 2022. Not one player has made a measurable impact. Maybe he’s not going but the fact people think he needs more time is wild
This Royals team isn’t good but it also shouldn’t be this bad. The hitting coach needs to go. The overactive sentient pile of soggy waffles manager isn’t exempt from blame. At this point, a GM change seems necessary to truly reset.
@RobDesselle Did not address the root, rearranging the chairs on the deck etc. Making changes around the source of the problem is not a change in philosophy. It’s the same thing it’s always been
@RobDesselle Many (including me) have been calling for org development changes and an overhaul in hitting coaches. There were always concerns but they doubled down based on good results but never addressed the root. Thats bad leadership
@RobDesselle Brian Sweeney has been phenomenal. I mostly disagree on bullpen acquisitions because it still ain’t good and last year’s closer season was a fluke. JJ is still getting nothing from the draft. I’ve thought Q is a bad process manager with no personality from the start.
@RobDesselle So without saying Brian Sweeney, we got nothing. You can credit them for overachieving with the bats just enough, creating optimism but ultimately continuing a trend of piss poor player development
@RobDesselle I dunno, man.
The dugout/clubhouse needs a jolt and milQuetoast ain’t it.
Right now what does JJ have to hang his hat on in terms of draft/development? Without saying Brian Sweeney, what has JJ done right?
The Royals:
15 caught stealings (t-4th)
7 pickoffs (t-5th)
19 outs on the bases (4th)
Total of 41 outs on the bases in 50 games. Yes, that leads all of baseball.
The organization pledged improvement from last year's atrocious baserunning team. Somehow, they got worse!
