इसे शुरू किया था अंग्रेज़ों ने, आपकी नाक नापकर दिए, टैक्स वसूलने के लिए दिए गए यह उपनाम।

जिसे इन नामों पर नाज़ हो, हक़ीक़त जान लें; यह अंग्रेज़ों द्वारा एक तरह का अपमान था जिसे आज आप शान समझते हैं।

भारत में गौत्र चलते थे, सरनेम नहीं।

1871 में देश में पहली जनगणना हुई थी। सबके जाति-धर्म-पेशा लिखने की कवायद थी, जो कामयाब नहीं हुई।

1881 में दूसरी कोशिश हुई, हर्बर्ट रिज़ले इसके कमिश्नर बने।

नाक और खोपड़ी के साइज़ नापकर नई तरकीब लगाई गई।

नाक की चौड़ाई और सिर के साइज़ पर समाज को विभक्त कर दिया गया।
