As the @PDNewsGuild ends, we want to say thank you. Thank you to those who served over many decades, those we represented and those who let us tell their stories. And thank you to readers. Your trust in us meant everything. #savethenews -30-
Statement by Northeast Ohio Newspaper Guild Local 1: After more than 80 years of union membership, Plain Dealer journalists will no longer be represented by Local 1. The unit will be dissolved effective May 17. The PD newsroom will no longer exist.
We’re bargaining today. Our last contract expired in 2017.
There are many reasons why The Blade/Block Communications should negotiate in good faith so we can reach a deal soon.
One of the most compelling: We keep losing great colleagues. 🧵
Lee Enterprises news execs haven't met even once w/ the staff of @TheBuffaloNews since @LeeEntNews purchased Buffalo's newspaper 3 years ago. We asked @adrians_jason & @RTDPaigeMudd to make time this week when they are in town. They said they will meet with us in 3 or 4 months.
Solidarity with our @newsguild siblings at the @NYTimesGuild who are WALKING OUT of the workplace today.
The workers are asking YOU:
❌ Don’t read the New York Times
❌ Don’t share their articles
❌ Don’t play Wordle (or the crossword!)
all-day today through midnight.
Over 1,100 New York Times workers are now officially on work stoppage, the first of this scale at the company in 4 decades. It's never an easy decision to refuse to do work you love, but our members are willing to do what it takes to win a better newsroom for all. #GuildStrong!
Tomorrow we hold power to account at the New York Times. Don’t use the app. Don’t click on the site. Read local news. Support public radio. Pull out a cookbook. Break your Wordle streak. Don’t touch the crossword. Support every worker fighting for a better world.
To our readers: We did not make this decision lightly. We are deeply committed to the success of the @nytimes. We also know that we produce our best work when we feel valued and are treated equitably. Thank you for standing by us today.
The newsroom workers of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, represented by the Newspaper Guild of Pittsburgh, on Tuesday began a strike against the company. More details:
Gannett workers deserve so much better. Here are some easy things to do immediately:
* Pay a living wage
* Keep company phones
* Pay your union staff the federal mileage rate
* Fire your union-busting lawyers
Exciting news for the Record-Courier NewsGuild. The @NLRB ruled in our favor, and we will soon be voting our union in! Ballots go out NEXT WEEK and will be counted April 6.

We know health insurance costs rise every year, but imagine you’re told your rates are jumping 22% or FOUR TIMES the national average. That’s what some @chicagotribune journalists now face. Here’s a thread on why that’s not only wrong, but illegal:
🚨Bargaining Update🚨
We’re excited to share we’ve reached a deal with management on our first contract! After 2 years of bargaining & a 5 day strike, we’ve secured an agreement that makes meaningful improvements to our working conditions. We came together to demand better & won!
With @wirecutter/@nytimes management refusing to come to the table to reach a deal, 100% of our unit will be striking from Thanksgiving through Cyber Monday. The best way you can support us is by boycotting @wirecutter from 11/25-11/29: https://t.co/sLOVFbdbZK
We’re thankful for journalists, the unblinking eye who tell the stories of their communities, expose injustice, protect our democracy and – despite enormous obstacles – work to do it better every day. And we’re thankful for the readers who make it all worthwhile.
Tonight our union unanimously voted to ratify our first contract. In doing so we've made our workplace better and fairer for current and future Quartzians. Congratulations!
The @qzunion has UNANIMOUSLY ratified our contract!
The contract kicks in right away, and includes a number of important wins, from just cause to improved salary minimums and longer paid parental leave. So proud to be a part of the union and @nyguild.
Unionize your workplace!
