Before returning to work on Monday (just 5 days ago?!) I wrote about my experiences of shared parental leave. More thankful than ever that I haven't had to return this week with both kids in FT childcare and my husband at work @maternityCPD @kinzalouise

🎙️How do you teach teaching to teachers?
How do you get your colleagues to do it the way you want them to?
What do you do when it doesn't go to plan?

The awesome @CheltTeacher did her 2nd mat leave VERY differently.
🎧 Listen to why and how...

I LOVED listening to this from the brilliant @CheltTeacher - some of it was like talking to myself during my first mat leave when I also felt alone being a new mum who wanted to hold onto career aspirations. So pleased you've found the right school to enable you to do this 💪
📢 Well this is exciting! Here’s the @WeAreInBetaPod episode that tells the story of my maternity #CPD school visits with 👶 🍼 with @FKAEnglish sharing how to go about this as a school & be family friendly. @maternityCPD #MTPtTproject

Post covid we are looking to ficus in school on participation. After 14 years of doing fixture after fixture a ficus on numbers going forward. Do any schools just run internal leagues, clubs? @MrFallickPE @Planet_PE@tombrush1982 gcse to still have fixtures for moderation
@maternityCPD Shared google calendar with my husband. Pink for personal, brown for my work, green for his work. If it's not in the calendar IT DOESN'T EXIST 🤣 massive help for working the childcare jigsaw. Also do the pre-deadline deadline with departmental stuff to ensure no hectic chasing.
@maternityCPD Don't make the mistake I once did and promise to be 'available for contact' on your day off unless you really want this! Think carefully about how you delegate operational vs strategic tasks. Outline a clear chain of command & build a competent, confident team who you can trust!
@maternityCPD Never think that you are shirking or compromising for working #parttime. The happier, healthier and more fulfilled you are, the better you will be as a leader b/c you will be able to manage situations calmly and with perspective #MTPTchat
A very personal blog post today: https://t.co/5Ans8FdBOl
A big shout out to @sltennant who ended up giving me a mini counselling session during one of my #MTPTproject meetings, and which led to me being able to write this today.
@SeftonReligion I wrote a blog on this recently - did this with both of my babies. Mixed responses from my work places but it is your prerogative to do this!

Y6: "Miss, will you make us a Shrek beanie please?"
Mrs Dowie: "When we get out of lockdown, I’ll make the whole of Y6 a Shrek beanie!"
Government: "Children will return to school on 8th March"
Mrs Dowie: 🤦♀️
😂😂😂
The job of a teacher is to educate & inspire our future generation.
To make the world a safer place for all, sometimes we just have to be a little bit brave.
Acceptance without exception.
Here’s my small bit for history.

This is a great article for many in the @maternityCPD and @FlexTeachTalent communities - being a school leader and a parent - the importance of investing in your own childcare and acting as a role model . 💕
