Are Gen3 nuke plants at T-punt/D-fontein the best fit for SA in 2025+? Necessary, affordable, safe, socio-eco (jobs) & enviro impact, institutional capacity?
Hi from Antarctica! This is our field team and our airplane for the 11th year of the ICECAP aerogeophysical survey. I'm proud to be one of many collaborators from around the world. @AusAntarctic @UTGeophysics@Grantham_IC @_IPEV @Scripps_Polar@UWaterloo@cooldaff 1/5
Rates of deforestation in the Amazon are likely to pass 20% under Jair Bolsonaro's tenure.
That comes dangerously close to a tipping-point, which scientists now place at 20-25% https://t.co/WDa7y7Hrm0"
Well, this is going to put some people out of business ..
"Energy storage system prices are expected to decline at a rate of 8% annually through 2022"
... and some energy expert's noses out of joint !
.@koko_matshela repeats over & over that #Eskom plans to shut down old coal power stations because of renewable energy IPPs. He is wrong, of course. Eskom planned these closures long before REIPPP, as shown e.g. in the decommissioning column in the IRP electricity plan of 2010
Because shutting down old, dirty, thirsty, inefficient, expensive, non-compliant, end-of-life coal plants has been on the cards & planned by @Eskom_SA for years & has nothing to do with REIPPP. See schedule of plants to be shut down in IRP 2010, 8 y ago, before REIPPP started. https://t.co/5yErmImuqf
Bulgarian government taking weird steps: Belene will cost more than >10 Bln€ and still stand in a seismic active area. Nationality of investor will not change anything about that. If CNNC bites, it will not have an economic but political agenda. Another Trojan horse story? https://t.co/faLKoTxxLH
Do you really want to quote discredited global warming skeptics, @koko_matshela ? Travel more. See the world. It’s changing fast. Nuclear is moribund. Coal is in trouble. Even inflexible CCGTs. The future is all about low cost renewables + flexible resources. New economic reality https://t.co/mK3t1vaS6x
Nuclear lobbyist @GaopalelweBigG sending tweets from Adler, Russia (see location given in original tweet in timeline), insulting people instead of answering a simple question:
Who is paying for your trip to Russia? https://t.co/qF4LQ2Phqj
Top @Eskom_SA scientist Mark van der Riet, was suspended by @koko_matshela after rejecting substandard coal from the Gupta's Tegeta Brakfontein coliery. Koko suspended Van der Riet, over-ruled him, & allowed the substandard Tegeta coal to continue. Van der Riet now reinstated.
Today is the anniversary of when civil society stopped the corrupt nuclear deal in court! We’re so happy we got to mark the occasion by celebrating the leaders of the campaign this week.
Onwards to a just energy future! @OUTASA@PEnukeno@justenergySA@kuminaidoo@Earthlife_JHB
With due respect to the court, I consider this judgement to be grossly unjust and inequitable. It is as a setback regarding social justice. Should this matter be taken on appeal, it would be great if all those concerned about social justice join in as amicus curae. https://t.co/cb6GfNIvAL
Amadiba Crisis Committee is taking the Dept of Mineral Resources to court, requesting that it rules no licence to mine the area can be granted without the community’s consent. These photos give a voice to a community at risk of being destroyed for profit: https://t.co/FN4NiDKrpE
