Boston dropped Game 2, but this is a team that’s developed a pattern of letting those spots slip before responding in a big way, and historically they’ve been shaky in Game 2s at home despite their overall playoff success. The loss also required an outlier performance from the Sixers’ backcourt, with Maxey and Edgecombe combining for 59/14/11, which is tough to replicate against a defense like Boston’s.
Joe Mazzulla is one of the better adjustment coaches in the league, and Game 1 felt like the more accurate representation of this matchup. There’s a clear talent gap here, and Boston holds edges across the board, from taking care of the ball better than anyone in the league to ranking top 4 in both ORTG and DRTG. Philadelphia is much closer to average in those areas, and asking their young pieces to consistently perform at that level is a big stretch. This is a prime bounce-back spot where the Celtics assert control of the series and make a statement on the road.

Miami Ohio +7.5 -110 (2U)

Analysis 👇
This play-in game sets up perfectly for Miami (OH) to show out on a national stage after an undefeated regular season that’s had everyone talking. They’ll essentially be playing a home game in Dayton, just 44 miles from campus, so the crowd advantage should be very real. SMU started the season strong but has fallen off lately, especially with the uncertainty around BJ Edwards, who is dealing with injury and won’t be close to 100% even if he suits up. What separates Miami (OH) from typical mid-majors is their elite offense, ranking 2nd in the nation in points per game, 1st in field goal percentage, and top 25 from three, giving them the firepower to hang with anyone. As long as they can hold their own defensively and limit Boopie Miller’s ability to penetrate, this sets up as a game they can keep close throughout. Getting 7.5 in what’s essentially a home environment is too much value to pass up.
