Shri Vikram Dev Dutt, Secretary, Ministry of Coal, in his opening remarks at the Roadshow on Promotion of Surface Coal/Lignite Gasification Projects, underscored that India stands at a pivotal moment where the nation is leveraging its own resources and ingenuity to shape the next chapter of industrial transformation, strategic self-reliance, and national resilience.
Highlighting India’s vast coal and lignite reserves as a national endowment, he stated that coal gasification is key to utilising coal more intelligently while strengthening energy security, reducing strategic import dependence, and building domestic manufacturing capabilities across critical sectors such as fertilizers, chemicals, and steel.
Referring to the evolving geopolitics of global energy and commodity supply chains, he emphasised that India’s coal is not merely a commodity, but a strategic asset. He further remarked, “The opportunity is unprecedented. The need is urgent. The support is generous. And the time is now.”
He also thanked all participating stakeholders, industry leaders, and partners for their enthusiastic participation in the roadshow.

Ministry of Mines Achieves Landmark with Operationalization of 101 Auctioned Mineral Blocks
India’s mineral sector has achieved a landmark milestone with the successful operationalization of 101 auctioned mineral blocks since the introduction of the auction regime in 2015. This significant achievement underscores the transformative impact of reforms undertaken by the Ministry of Mines in close coordination with State Governments, contributing towards the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047 and Aatmanirbhar Bharat.
Since the introduction of the auction regime in 2015, India has witnessed unprecedented progress in transparent and competitive mineral resource allocation, with a large number of mineral blocks auctioned across the country. Of these, 101 auctioned mineral blocks have already been operationalized, marking a major milestone in the effective implementation of mining reforms.
Notably, FY 2025–26 recorded the highest-ever annual performance under the auction regime, with 212 mineral blocks auctioned in a single financial year, reflecting the growing momentum, efficiency, and credibility of India’s transparent mineral allocation framework.

Union Minister of Coal and Mines, Shri G. Kishan Reddy, today held a meeting with a Japanese delegation led by Ms. Kimi Onoda, Minister for Economic Security, Government of Japan in New Delhi. Senior officials from the Ministry of Mines were also present during the discussions.
The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation in the critical minerals sector, including exploration, processing and recycling of critical minerals for developing resilient and diversified supply chains. Hon'ble Minister of Coal and Mines invited Japanese companies to invest in India in these areas.
