@koala_bill During the Great Depression, some people drove motor cars and took holidays, which leads me to believe the so called hard times were a giant misinformation campaign.
@darkturkey27@AvidCommentator International student visas are often used as immigration pathways. If students were required to leave Aus upon completing studies, enrolments would drop dramatically. I don’t begrudge people doing it, but the fact is many are not enrolling for the education.
@JonDoe245830@TheLaurenChen That’s true! Costs high across the board. You’d like to think we could get energy costs lower as that goes into every step of the chain.
@jappleby Saw it yesterday and thought it looked terrible. Assuming it’s temporary for some kind of event. I’m guessing some people will like that style.
@mitchrebrown@daveyk317@AvidCommentator Yes, but my point is that other types of investment may now carry a better risk reward profile than housing for investors. I don’t think that’s a bad thing - it’s fair to say a disproportionate amount of Australian capital is tied up in real estate - directly and indirectly.
@daveyk317@AvidCommentator That's true, but after buying, it becomes existing stock and less desirable to investors. Negative gearing only makes sense if there is capital appreciation + if that becomes uncertain, there are other better and safer returns on money than minimizing personal tax.
@LostNFo55209046@nonewthing True, but it still means those clubs have amassed bigger online followings. Just wondering what the OP was basing their statement on. Have they seen statistics, or are they basing it on their own social media timeline which will obviously be skewed towards Arsenal.
@stusfootyflash@OldDaysFootball Very funny. The movie we didn’t know we needed. Now just have to wait for AI to get to the point it can deliver us the whole thing!
@sachihirayama As an Australian, I agree with all your points. Of course when we are talking about a whole country, we generalise - there are always people with different view points - but overall your points stand.
@nomadgeist@LastDaysofRome Irish born and moved to Aus age 8. My experience is that in Ireland - family forms the core of social networks. In Aus - school, Uni, sports clubs is the core. Interestingly, I married a Taiwanese, and found TW and Ireland quite similar on this. Island peoples?
@takaichi_sanae@AlboMP Don’t worry, no one in Australia will take offence at him being called ‘Anthony’. It is political suicide in Australia to be too formal. Of course the class division exists, but culturally, the ruling class can’t be seen to be too ‘fancy’. Next time call him ‘Albo’ 😉
@youngy18 Bittersweet moment I'm sure. Not easy to hang the boots up on a fine career. Thank You for all the memories, and wishing you every success in a new chapter of life.
